View Full Version : PostgreSQL setup problems

THE THREAT

Hello people, hope this is in the right section. If not please move. I've only just downloaded the HEM software and having a lot of trouble getting it all set up. Hope someone can help?

I have downloaded holdem manager successfully but when trying to download the postgreSQL software I am encountering problems. I have saved and unzipped the files to my desktop but when trying to run the install I get as far as the service configuration. I keep getting an account error note saying "invalid username specified: logon failure: unknown username or bad password".

I have tried changing the username from the preset postgres to a username of my choice and also tried leaving it as well as trying various passwords.

Can anyone please offer me any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong and what I should be doing at this stage? Should I have downloaded this software before the holdem manager? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

click on Start and go to Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt

* If you are on Vista, rightclick and choose "Run as Administrator".

A black box should appear. Type 'net user postgres /del' (without the quotes) and press enter.

The user is now deleted and you can (re)install PostgreSQL.

Also delete the other user your created!! ('net user xxxxxxxxxx /del')

Afterwards please try this PostgreSQL version: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/pginstaller.exe

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

I have followed the update you gave me in the second link which has been successful but am still having problems with the postgres installation. I have followed the command prompt instructions and when I click on the download link it appears to be downloading but when it gets to 100% complete it then says, sorry postgres could not be installed.
I do not really understand exactly what the last paragraph of your post meant, can you explain that bit to me again please.

Thanks

I tried to, this is confusing me already. I sent a email asking for a 17.00 session yesterday, I mean is that what I'm meant to do?

Do I send another one? How does it work?

1) Use www.revouninstaller.com to uninstall postgresql.

2) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete

3) reboot

4) Install this version of PostgreSQL - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

If that doesn't work, follow the first 3 steps then download, unzip, and run the setup file from this package - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/postgresql.zip

I've done all that already. Patvs done all that last night. Patvs said I had a unique problem. Something to do with the last stages of the install.

Just contact me on MSN and we'll give it another try.
Since your internet connection is so slow, do download all the updates first.
