System: Win 7
Cpu: Very fast
Ram: Plenty
Drive: SSD

For some unknown reason Holdem Manager isn't getting past the initial loading screen all of a sudden. It times out almost immediately with the infamous (Not Responding) sign popping up again and again.

I've tried:

I've made sure it boots up using administrative rights.
I tried reinstalling Holdem Manager, but that didn't work either.

Possible Issue:

I had a problem with a Win7 update before and I used the fix you guys had for it last time, which worked. So it may be that again as Win7 updated something a few days ago. But that's my best guess really having tried everything else I could think of.

Please help,
Duberstein

Update to: http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.12.10-04May2012.exe

Run a manual Windows Update and install all updates, including all .net framework updates.

All that was missing was SP1. I didn't want to chance it when it first came out, due to possible bugs and other issues, so I delayed installing it. Anyway, Win7 is now fully updated with SP1. The security .net framework updates were updated automatically a few days before.

Holdem Manager is also now up to date.

Bad news though, I'm afraid. Holdem Manager still freezes at the initial loading screen. It says Holdem Manager 1.12.10a (Not responding), while Validating... Unregistered Software. It is registered, but I presume this is normal. Can't say I've really noticed what it says at this point before now.

What should I try next? Should I try unistalling/reinstalling everything including the PostgreSQL stuff?

This can be caused by a firewall or virusscanner: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/339/Software+Security+Problems+%28Firewall%29

That might have been helpful, but I don't have any of those programs installed. Damn.

Any other suggestions please?

The update to 1.12.10 runs a database update which depending on your database size needs some minutes or hours. During this update the program shows "..not responding..".
Can this be the problem? In this case you should just let it run over night.

No, it's not that.

This is a screen shot of it. http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/6263/hmnr.png

Ignore the "not responding". The program will unfreeze after the database update.

If you end up getting a timeout error, run dbcontrolpanel.exe and create a new database.

PC spec: Intel® Core™i7, 8gb Ram and a SSD drive. 64bit Win 7.

Ran latest update. 18May2012.exe

I tried running HM and leaving it, but it's been running for over 6 hours now and it still hasn't booted the program or done anything else. It just stays on that flash screen (see pic above). If it is updating the database (which I doubt), I see no reason it should take this long. My PC is very fast and my database is very small. So to be honest with you, I think it's just frozen. It could be quite some time before I get a timeout error so I'm shutting down HM with Task Manager now.

I think I'll try unistalling everything and starting from scratch if no one else has a solution to this problem.

Okay, I did that it and it just did the exact same thing afterwards. I waited for 2 hours without change.

What firewall do you have?

I had a same kind of problem than you are having now, and I had recently updated my Zonealarm Firewall. For some reason it was not enough to allow HEM a full access to Internet in the Firewall settings. Only uninstalling Zonealarm Firewall solved the problem with the HEM.

Which Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall for holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe, even if the firewall is turned off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily.

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Run a manual Windows Update and install all updates, including all .net framework updates./

Wa-hey-da-ba-hey-da!

I did two things at once, I unistalled Zonealarm (+virus scanner edition) and added HEM to windows firewall exceptions list and voila, HEM now works.

Thanks for all your input guys. I appreciate it a lot.

I've since reinstalled ZA (-virus scanner) and it still works, in case it helps you guys inform other people in the same boat.

Cheers.
