My issue is that when i run the msi file it closes after the first language selection screen and a small windows installer pop up comes and says 'this installation package could not be opened. Verify the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.'

wtf

Did you have Postgresql installed with an other software like PT3 or sth. else.

Check your system - if you have a running postgresql windows service there is no need to install another version.

If you dont have this just delete the folder c:\program files\postgresql\8.x or sth. similar.
Open a command box as administrator and enter
net user postgres /delete

Then start a new installation.

Btw: the original error message just means that you need to extract the whole zip file before starting the installation: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=108
