I just downloaded the free trial to test things out before I decide whether I'm going to buy the software but have had problems installing it. I'm running Vista 32 bit.

As per the instructions here (http://www.holdemmanager.net/setup/postgresSql.html) I disabled User Access Control and downloaded the Postgres zip file. I then unzipped the file and tried to install by opening the postgresql-8.3.msi file.

Upon doing so, I received an error message that looks like this;

What is the best course of action? I have no idea what this file is, so is it normal that it would already be installed on my computer?

Thanks.

Should I uninstall it as the message says or could that do damage to my computer?

This means you have previously installed postgresql (PT3 trial?). If you havent uninstalled it yet, you should be able to simply connect HM to the sql installation.

PT3's default name/password is - postgres/dbpass
HM's default name/password is - postgres/postgrespass

If that doesnt help:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\data, move the the pg_hba file to your Desktop and open it with notepad.
2. Scroll to the bottom and change all md5 to trust. Save and close the file
3. Move the file back to the data folder
4. Restart the PostgreSQL service: Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services

HM will accept any password now.

If you find you need to reinstall postgresql completely, use these steps - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

Okay, great. That worked.

Thanks for that.

I have another question that isn't related, but I'm not sure if you'd prefer I start a new thread or just post it here so sorry if I'm in the wrong spot.

After installing it I really don't know what to do.

The setup installation I saw had a screen shot of how to set up auto importing of your hands from Full Tilt, however, I only play on Pokerstars.

Pokerstars only lets you download 100 hands at a time, and they email them to you. You can't download them.

So, I took the email of the hands and saved it in a notepad file and imported that which I'm pretty sure worked, although I can't find them in the software?

Additionally, as Pokerstars doesn't let you download your hands, does that mean I don't bother with the auto importing?

The "Quick Start Guide" at http://www.rvgsoftware.com/hm/quickstart.pdf is also giving me a "The Page Cannot Be Found" error.

So I guess what I'm asking is, what do I do now? Where can I find a user guide? I couldn't find anything on Google.

Our current FAQs - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx

I've just bought Holdem Manager and I don't know where to start. Please help me configure it. (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=2)

How do I configure Holdem Manager to work with PokerStars? (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=147)

Pokerstars saves the hands directly to your hard drive. If you play tournaments you need to request the summaries via email. To get all your old hand histories and tournament summaries email support@pokerstars.com and ask for them.
