When I try to start HEM I get a message saying that I cannot connect to 127.0.0.1.

I recently attempted to install PostgreSQL 8.4 but it did not recognize my password so I cancelled the installation. I logged onto my computer the next day to discover I had a new user account on the xp login screen named Postgres. Thinking this was an error and fearing I'd downloaded a virus I deleted the user account (and with it all its data). Now HEM won't work..... Help?!

-1 Properly delete the postgres user: click Start--> Accessories--> Command Prompt (rightclick and run as admin) and type in
net user postgres /delete (enter)

-2 Reinstall SQL 8.4.2 during the installation: type in postgrespass for password
(remember the port it uses: default 5432)

-3 If you get the postgres user at startup.. that's normal. Just log in with your NORMAL user account. To "remove" the postgres user from your Windows startup screen:http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/377-log-automatically-startup.html

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer (start > computer) and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right-click Properties the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Try using these instructions to reinstall PostgreSQL again. http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

Windows XP and Anti Vir. AntiVir also keeps claiming HEM is a "BDSpoison" virus]

I think its reinstalled correctly now but my database has vanished. All the data appears to still be there though because all the space the database took up aint been freed.

That is a false positive you should try to fix first.

Close HEM and your anti-virus and delete any \xenocode\appliance cache folders and any other possible false positive files.

1. Enable "Show hidden files and folders" under Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
2. Go to C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Xenocode\Appl iance Cache and delete every folder you can find in there

If you are on XP, that location is C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Local\Application Data\xenocode\appliance cache

Empty your recycle bin.

reboot

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Yes, when you uninstall SQL it does not delete the \data directory, in case you need to reinstall the same DB. In your case the DB's were already damaged so you will want to reimport your archived hands and delete the \PostgreSQL\8.3\data folder that contains the damaged databases. Your \HMArchive is likely not in your \Holdem Manager directory. We normally suggest you use C:\HMArchive, but you may have put it anywhere.

To verify the location: Options > Configure Auto Import Folders > Edit > Archive Folder: ___________________

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=56

The archive should be organized by \Month\DayOfMonth (example: D:\HMArchive\2009\07\31).
