Is it possible to place the HUD stats so that they expand/contract equally to left and right when figures increase/decrease?

The only available option is "Scale font" in player preferences->appearance.

Please suggest it or vote for it here: http://holdemmanager.uservoice.com/pages/5307-holdem-manger-suggestions

See page 142 AND page 145 of the Holdem Manager Manual 1.09
You can download it here: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HoldemManagerManual.pdf

Open HEM, (I think you can leave 'Start Auto Import' off if you like)
Go to your poker room & join a table (I prefer to join a table with a waiting list so I can mess with the HUD without having to play at the same time)

Hold'em Manager > 'HUD Options' > 'Table Preferences' > 'Card and Alignment Edit' [x] & 'Apply'

QUOTE FROM MANUAL (confusing wording)
"...dummy mucked cards show up on an active table along with PINK Alignment Flags around HUD Stats. (See picture in manual on page 145)... Panels with just the left edge highlighted are left aligned. I.e. the left edge will always be in the same place, regardless of the size of the text in the panel. You can make a panel center-aligned by clicking on the right edge of the panel. The center of the panel will remain the same. For right aligned panel the right edge is always in the same place.. You can change the vertical alignment properties in the same way"

After you have the desired alignment. "...simply uncheck the 'Card and Alignment Edit' checkbox and select 'Apply'..."
