So on a completely new System I have reinstalled PostgreSQL and HEM on Windows XP SP3, using the "admin" account, following all steps correctly.

I want to use it and play, using a "guest" account. Directly after installation and creation of a new database I was able to launch HEM normally.

Now, a day later, when opening HEM I get this weird error message, regardless of wether I open HEM being and admin or "guest":
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/9125/errormessagehem.th.jpg (http://img33.imageshack.us/i/errormessagehem.jpg/)

Information that might be helpful:
-I use Norton Internet Secuirty 2010 (turned off firewall doesnt change anything)
-I have NOT installed HEM on C:\RVG[..] but on a different space, and a made up folder
-I use Windows XP SP3
-"Eine vorhandene Verbindung wurde vom Remotehost geschlossen." is "An existing connection was closed by the remotehost"
-I had the same problem before, figuring the problem was that after installation I changed the partition of the harddrive HEM and PostgreSQL were installed on, so I reinstalled both; ... now having the problem again.

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe, and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe, and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.

It doesn't matter the Firewall is off. Still add the exceptions.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

Okay, thank you so far!

What worked for me was: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
---------------
"All Other Windows Operating Systems

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

2. Scroll to PostgreSQL Database Server and make sure it’s started and if not, right click on PostgreSQL Database Server and choose start as seen below and try again.

Note: If it's already started then stop the service and restart it."
---------------

Now,.. do I have to do this EVERYTIME before I want to launch HEM?

Oh and, happy christmas by the way!

No, as long as it is set to Automatic start and the Secondary Logon Service is all set to Auto.

1. For me I have to end and start the service every time before I want to use HEM. Can you give me further explanation of how to make it automatic?

2. I have imported my "config" folder from my old PC from an older version into the 1.10 beta 5 version I am using now in order to keep HUD stats etc. ..

So now I hijack my own thread a little bit because my HUD isnt working at all. It sometimes finds tables but does not show stats at all on the tables itself.

In the services program where you start and stop the service you can also edit the properties of this service. The starttype should be set to "Automatic".
If it still doesn't work a firewall or sth. else is preventing the service from being started with the system.

For your Hud problem we need more informations. Please answer and post these questions: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=174

Okay I am sorry. It works now.

But I have one question:
When the HUD is on now, the tables + HEM are kind of blinky blanking all the time so that for example typing in the bet amounts gets dirupted all the time etc.

Is there anything I can do against it?

The usual things we recommend for this problem:

- update your video drivers
- try changing the resolution / color depth of your graphic driver

- try changing opacity for the hud
- enable Table preferences -> force on top (but this has other disadvantages - overlapping stats).

"force on top" did it for me..

Thank you :)
