Hi,

I'm using HM on Virtualbox @ ubuntu 8.04 with a postgres database (8.2) running on the Ubuntu Host. My system is an Intel Dual Core 3 GHz (8400) with 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM. Nevertheless I only get 20 hands/s which is quite slow.

My questions are the following:
Are 20 hands/s normal for this system and does anyone know how to accelerate the import?

Best regards, Frank

edit: oh, and of course I'm doing a vaccum/analyse every two days...

It actually varies quite a bit and some people with better specs get less than people with less. Vacuum's will help in running faster queries but defragmenting has a better effect for people with slow import speeds, some people have got noticeable increases doing that.

So go to Start > Program Files > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defrag

Also the bigger your database the more youll notice a decrease in import speeds although it shouldnt effect query runnings etc so much

The other point is that youll notice it increasing slowly and evening off so over smaller samples it might be a bit slower but should improve over bigger imports. Also makesure you have http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate1.06.03h.exe

As I wrote, I'm using linux (in my case ext3) for the database so I guess defragmenting the windows partition shouldn't get any improvements.

I'm also using the newest version of HM. My database consists of over 5 mio. hands and the last import (today) of 500.000 hands took over 8 hours ( so a bit less then 20 hands/sec).

But I have to say that this doesn't effect stats at the tables. I'm fully happy with that, it's just the import thing...

Can you tell us a bit about the makeup of hands you are importing? ie, avg file size, which sites, which game types etc

I might see something that could be adjusted based on that but it is likely that you will be at 20 until I'm able to make some more refinements to this system.

sure, the filesize is between 1 kb and 140 kb. The average size is 82 kb and the pokersite is pokerstars. Gametype is NL holdem.

Do you play FR,6Max or HU?

I'm playing FR only.

Are those information enough?

Full Ring is about half the speed of 6 max since there is much more data being saved. The file sizes are really small too - if you can merged them into bigger files of apx 1MB (or even a couple hundred KB or more) then that should make a pretty big difference.

why HM doesn't import new HH that are being played at the moment simultaneously along x HH that are being stored at the auto import folder?

i.e
i have 100k that havnt been imported yet.
i open poker room and start playing, fire auto import.
HM is starting to import all of those 100k , while new hands wont be imported during live (online lol) session

thanks in advance,

Because you have HM auto import turned off it cant import from 2 folders at the same time so it must clear the 100k hands and then move onto the next folder. To avoid this leave HM auto import running.

ok, but im sure u aware about the cpu leak that HM have while running auto import , dont u?

Very few people have this problem but if your one of those people maybe run the import 30 mins before you start if possible
