View Full Version : Postgres Hogging Memory?

I have been having significant lag problems lately trying to multitable.

I run HEM and Table Ninja. My computer should be able to easily handle many tables (dual-core, 2GB RAM).

When I get to between 17-20 tables, I suddenly experience severe lag. It runs fine until I add one more table and then it lags terribly. The number of tables varies and I can usually start with 19 tables and the number goes down through the sesson. But...sometimes the number can go up by one.

Looking through my "Systems Processes", I noticed the postgres is listed as many as eight times and each of those processes is taking between 5-13 MB. Is this normal?

ThanX!

Yes, that is normal. Try disabling the Frames in Table Ninja. For HM HUD try changing any transparent HUD panel backgrounds to solid black and max opacity, instead of semi-transparent. if using multiple panels turn that option off.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using? What are your machine specs? Do you vacuum/reindex/defrag regularly?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.

I would suggest you do the majority of the things in this thread: http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11194

Some of the most important things, imo:

- Remove the WinnerName, WinnerCards and WinnerWon from the Options > Hands View Column Selecto
- Turning off logging and deleting existing logs
- Vacuum/Full/Analyze, then Reindex - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=163
- Defrag last and make sure you stop the postgresql service before you defrag. I personally use Smart Defrag.
- Do a Cold Boot (Shut Down > Start) before you use HM again

Thank you for the thorough reply. I will try all of that.

I have WinXP, no active firewall, and I shut off my anti-virus while playing.

I have not vacuumed/reindexed. I will do that.

I upgraded to the given Beta version of HEM and now PokerStars completely freezes every time I have about ten or eleven tables open.

The only other settings I have changed are minor things such as opacity.

This will really hurt me if I don't get it resolved quickly, as I am barely on track to make Supernova by the end of the year. If I don't make it there, it will cost me $1600 in bonus money.

I'm going to try reinstalling a previous HEM version. Is there anything else I can do?
