HEM worked perfect yesterday and the day before and for a long time. But now I'm not able to open it anymore.

I get the following message:
The following error occured when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'.

I know I have had this problem once before too, months ago. I did a quick search now and found a thread from some months ago where the suggested fix was to open windows ->system32 ->drivers->etc.

At the bottom I had "127.0.0.1 localhost". I also read that "::1 localhost" should be there so I added it and restarted pc. Still doesn't work. I also downloaded the last beta (1.10 beta 3) and tried to open again but still now working.

I'm running on Vista 64-bit btw.

Kind of desperate now, as I can not play without my HUD. Kind of furstrating that these things happen from time to time, and typically when one plan to play some hours of poker.

Please help :)

Hmmmm.... I did another restart after the download of the latest beta. Then HEM did an update of the database. And now it seems to work again.

I have no clue why it did now work earlier today and why it works now. But it works, and that is what matters :)

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue. The following steps are what I recommend when this happens. You did the proper thing first.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

Thanks. I'll save the advice. Looks like it's ok now.
