Whats the best way to import a massive database?

Currently i have all the HH saved in a folder and i'm importing it directly from the folder automatically. The problem is its going to take a number oif days to complete. When i shut the comp down an restart the import it re-imports the hands i had previously imported so this is gonna take some time.

I have 7 gig worth of hands. Should i delete some of these do you think?

I would suggest you break it up into smaller groups/folders of 1gb perhaps. NEVER use the Auto Import for bulk importing. That is much slower than the manual methods of Import From Folder/File(s).

Here are some previous threads about improting speed and importing large DBs.

You could also try doing a vacuum/analyze and defrag in between import groups.

I would suggest you do the majority of the things in this thread: http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11194

Some of the most important things, imo:

- Remove the WinnerName, WinnerCards and WinnerWon from the Options > Hands View Column Selecto
- Turning off logging and deleting existing logs
- Vacuum/Full/Analyze, then Reindex - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=163
- Defrag last and make sure you stop the postgresql service before you defrag. I personally use Smart Defrag.
- Do a Cold Boot (Shut Down > Start) before you use HM again

I was reading the thread out of curiousity because I have started buying some hand histories also.

I saw where you said to delete Winners Name etc. etc. so I went to the Options / Hands View Column Selection and there are two boxes. The box on the left has a bunch of categories including the ones you said to delete.

The one on the right is EMPTY!!!

Where are these supposed to show up?
Never knew I was missing anything but having an empty box on the right makes me wonder.

Left BOX is stats you want to be visible... Right BOX is stats you don't want to see...
