Hi,
When I tried to start Holdem Manager yesterday, it didn't work anymore. Today I installed the newest version, but when I start Holdem Manager I get the Connect to PostgreSQL screen, with the servername, portnumber and so on. If I choose connect I first get the message:
A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start the service? Yes or No
If I choose yes i get
Sorry, Holdem Manager was unable to start the service.
Anyone knows what I should do to get it running again?
Thanks

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?
This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.
First try to reboot.
If no help, try this:
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service
Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service
If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.
Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171
Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:
1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261
If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

I'm using Windows Vista. I don't know which firewall and anti-virus software I'm using, but I assume it's just the standard windows firewall and defender. I never installed anything manually anyway.
I tried to do the things you said, but they all failed.
I dont even care anymore whether I'm keeping my old database, I just want Holdem manager to be running again, so I can play again. I tried reinstalling everything, but when I download Postgresql from the original website I need to fill in a password during the installation, and it keeps saying the pasword is wrong...
I have no idea what to do next...

For reinstalling SQL to a new/empty DB, please follow these steps:
1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) manually delete or rename the Program Files\Postgresql folders
3) run the command - start > run > cmd >
net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.4, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall - http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do#windows

After doing what you said the installer still asked for a password. I typed postgrespass, and then I didn't get the message that it was incorrect and it continued the installation. At the end however I got the message:
"Problem running post-install step. Installation may not complete correctly
Failed to start the database server."
After that I got the message that the installation was complete, however, when I start Holdem Manager, I still get the "connection could not be made" message.
