Just downloaded HEM today and, unfortunately, it has not been easy to set up.

When I get onto the HEM database control panel, and click on "connect" it comes up the error message

"A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Hold'em manager attempt to start the service"

Click "yes"

"Hold'em manager was unable to start the service"

Click "ok"

"Hold'em manager has started the service"

But It doesn't let me into the "create new databases screen"

I have done everything in the FAQ section and was wondering if anyone could offer any advice as to how to get it to work, as I wouldn't like to have paid $80 for something that I can't get to work.

Cheers.

We usually recommend you install it and use the trial before purchasing, but rest assured we will help you get it running.

Did you install Postgresql already? http://www.holdemmanager.net/pginstaller

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. If you have Vista and the checkboxes are greyed out and you can't select it, please turn UAC on, reboot, and then set the files to run as administrator.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

If none of that helps answer the questions and I will help you get this resolved.

Yeah, I had tried all the stuff in that post and it didn't work because I had clicked on the wrong link and had downloaded v8.3 instead of v8.4 - now its working fine :o

Sorry, but seriously, I really appreciate the time you took to answer my question.

Thank you.
