For some reason hem will never let me do a manual vacuum, i do it through pgmanIII

so i follow the advice from hem

I have a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE db. and it seems to only do something for about ten or twenty seconds, and i am not sure how this can be correct.

WHen i look at task manager, there is nothing like postgres running for more than a few seconds

Surely something should be running for hours>

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using? Which version of postgresql?

The bigger your DB, and longer between vacuums, the longer it will take. Depending on your DB size, it could certainly take a few hours.

It should look like this when finished.

I would suggest you do the majority of the things in this thread: http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11194

Some of the most important things, imo:

- Remove the WinnerName, WinnerCards and WinnerWon from the Options > Hands View Column Selecto
- Turning off logging and deleting existing logs
- Vacuum/Full/Analyze, then Reindex - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=163
- Defrag last and make sure you stop the postgresql service before you defrag. I personally use Smart Defrag.
- Do a Cold Boot (Shut Down > Start) before you use HM again

Windows xp, avg av, windows firewall, postgres 8.3

Should i turn these off?

Like i said, i have a huuuuuge db, and it seems to vacuum it in about 20 seconds, so i assume i am doing something wrong!

No, I was just curious.

There is something wrong with your DB, IMO. Postgresql 8.2 or 8.3? WHat sites do you play? You can try to reindex it thru the maintenance menu before you vacuum, but I have a feeling it will act similarly.

You may want to try creating a new DB and importing a small portion of your old hands, to see if the new DB will vacuum properly. Or you may want to consider a clean install of postgresql and reimport. :(

*Try creating a new UTF DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=146
*Now import a small portion of your \HMArchive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173
*If the new DB seems to work properly, you will want to import the rest of your archives to the new DB, export/import the hands from the old DB to the new DB, and export/import any player notes and tourney summaries - and then delete the old DB. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=21

Make sure you export/backup everything before deleting the old DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20754
