After such a long run with no trouble, my computer crashed.
After reinstalling everything now I'm in trouble again.

forgot to mention that after re-install many updates were
added...i usually ignore Microsoft.

When starting HEM i get the following error message:

"cannot open database: unable to read data from transport connection.
An existing conection was closed by remote host."

Now, Carbon Poker was opened at the time. Thinking Carbon was the
problem, I closed it, then re-opened HEM, but received the same
error message.

I'm also testing PT3 for an indivudual who wants me to check
it out...will this cause PostrgeSQL problems????? Both are not
running at the same time.

I did check FAQ:
http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx

i am currently working through this suggestion:
http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=8261

but have been unsucessful so far

which seemed to apply best to my problem, but after following
every step (except Vista directions because i have XP) nothing
helped.....

So, now what do I do??????

really appreciate your help...sorry this is so long.

OK, after reading a lot of other postings
especially the pulling hair out for days posting.....

I deleted the antivirus software I just purchased
and now HEM works fine. I'm happy again.

darn....may be out $24.00 unless they can figure
out a way HEM is compatible with their software.

Why does anitvirus software interfere with Potgrse ((( I can never spell that right)))

Thanks

hm and pt3 can each have a db on the same postgresql server without any issues. Just be careful of your import folder configurations if you use them at the same time.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands using these instructions - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755
