I've been a user of HEM for several months now without a hitch but tonight I go to open the program and nothing happens. No splash screens, no nothing. I check processes in ctrl alt del and it shows holdemmanager.exe running which seems odd.

I have had some virus/malware issues lately unrelated to HEM and I don't know if that can have anything to do with it, something getting removed or quarantined.

Should I do a complete reinstall?

You may have had some false positives related to HM. Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Close HEM and your anti-virus and delete any \xenocode\appliance cache folders and any other possible false positive files.

1. Enable "Show hidden files and folders" under Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
2. Go to C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Xenocode\Appl iance Cache and delete every folder you can find in there

If you are on XP, that location is C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Local\Application Data\xenocode\appliance cache

Empty your recycle bin.

reboot

I am running Windows XP, Windows Firewall, Avira Antivir Personal Free

The quarantine folder shows all sorts of HEM related stuff being quarantined but I don't know why I would just now have an issue as the majority of the quarantines seemed to be a couple weeks ago.

Doing the items you listed right now...

Reinstalling HM doesn't affect your DB. Once reinstalled you should be able to connect to postgresql again. Then you can follow the normal backup procedures - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20754

You also have a \HMArchive folder which contains all the original hands that get auto-imported and moved there. If you play a site like stars/ftp you can email their support and ask for all your old hand histories and tourney summaries.
