View Full Version : HM1 - Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'

Holdem Manager was working fine yesterday. Then last night it decided to not work.

Every time I load it I get the error: "The following error has occured when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'.

I've gone through all the guides I could find, uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted, and reinstalled both HM1, and PostgreSQL, and nothing seems to work.

I'd appreciate it if someone could give me some help, giving me exact steps, and I will reply with the positive (hopefully) or failed attempt at that step, and we could go back and forth and get this solved.

Thank you!

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it. And reboot.

If that doesn't help you will have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely

Rebooting didn't do anything.

I don't have the exact path you posted (Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop/Start Service) This is what I have:
I went to Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.3 > Stop Server and a command prompt opened and said:

"System error 1060 has occurred.

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

Press <return> to continue..."

Does this mean anything significant?

Also I do not have any postmaster.pid files in any of the data folders.

Update:
When installing the combo installer from the 'Quick Solution' on the first link you provided, at the end of the install a message comes up saying "Sorry, could not install postgreSQL". Installation is then aborted, and the setup was not completed successfully.

Uninstalling all my security and firewall software did not solve the problem either (yes I restarted after doing this).

This guide did not work either: http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/70/Reinstall+PostgreSQL

Under the 'Fresh Reinstall of PostgreSQL' of the 'Still Not Working?' section from this link:

http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/91/Can%27t+Connect+%7B47%7D+Failed+to+Start+PostgreSQ L+

When installing the combo installer, I get the error: 'Sorry, could not install postgreSQL'

When installing an older version from this link: http://rvgsoftware.fileburst.com/Postgres_8.3.9-v1.0.7.exe

The installer freezes every time halfway through once it gets to this point where it says:
Create folder: C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.3\data

Try http://ftp.postgresql.org/pub/binary/v8.2.22/win32/postgresql-8.2.22-1.zip

The only way to get the installer to work was to uncheck the box 'install as a service'. After installing I still received the same 'failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1' error message from HEM.

Is your secondary logon running?
Turn on the secondary Logon. The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Starting it once should insure it works in the future also.

Just checked, and secondary logon status is "started"

If you unchecked the "install as service" option during postgresql installation it will not work.

Seems like there is something wrong with your system that prevents the postgresql installation.
