First time i had this problem but when loading hem it says

"an error occured while reading the config//holdemmanager.congfig file: invalid character in the given encoding line 1 position1

holdem manager will now backup the old config file and create a new one for you"

than i click ok and i get a error popup that says

"unhandled exception has occurred in your application.if you click continue the appl;ication will ignore this error and attempt to continue. if you click quit the application will close immediatly

cannot create a file when that file already exists"

if i hit quit. it quits. if i hit continue the small hem startup screen/popup just sits there and never loads..

any help???????????/

thanks in advance

Reinstall HM clean - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

i have windows vista. not positive on firewall and i use avira antivirus

gonna reboot again later and see if it doesn't correct itself on it's own before i uninstall. chances are ill loose all my stats on players if i uninstall because i suck at doing things right when it comes to computers.

thanks for the help so far

It usually isn't too hard to rebuild the DB, if necessary. You probably have many of the originals in your \hmarchive folder. If you play a site like stars/ftp you can email their support and ask for all your old hand histories and tourney summaries.
