I am having the same problem. I have not been able to use my HEM since the "not real" virus I got from an update. I have downloaded the current patch, still cant get past the postgres page. HEM is useless to me at this point.

Reboot your computer.

If that doesn't help check your firewall settings: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=164

Special Kaspersky Problems: http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=21610

If you need further help please come back with more details about your system.

I'm having exactly the same problems. I'm a total noob when it comes to fixing stuff like this and when I tried to follow the instructions given, I couldn't even find the compatability tab so any advice that can be given in really basic terms would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The problem started for me on Sunday.

I had exactly the same problem: Unable to read data from the transport connection, so I made a new database. I realize now this was an error but is it too late to switch to the old database?? How could I do that?

In HEM go to options\database management, click connect and you should have the older one there.

I had the same issue today (unable to read...) after a windows update. I've just stopped and started the service as Fozzy stated on other thread and all is ok now

Didn't even need to reboot or delete the pid file

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot. If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands.
