Hello,

My PC had a virus so I have to format everything to set up everything fresh.

However, I am able to save important data to an extern harddrive using Ubuntu as a bootable resuce system.

Is ist possible, and If so, what exactly do I have to do, to save all my old HEM-databases?

I dont mean saving every .txt Handhistory to read 'em in again afterwards.

Unfortunately I can NOT boot my infected system again (like 1 more time to do this or that in order to save the databases) and would like to be close to 100% sure that it is NOT possible to copy a hidden virus while copying or saving databases in .exe files or something like that. If that is the case I'd rather cry a tear and forget about the old databases.

Furthermore I'd like to save my HUD configuration -> how do I do that?

thx in advance!

-1 On your infected computer, just copy the ProgramFiles/RVG Software/HoldemManager/CONFIG directory to a save location (external harddisk/memorystick). (and after you have installed HEM on a CLEAN computer, overwrite this folder)

-2a (will probably not work) You stated you formatted your harddisk, but can still get data from it (using a sort of GetDataBack/undelete type program):---> Retrieve your old ProgramFiles/PostgreSQL folder. Reinstall SQL. (during installation, it should state "PostgreSQL user already exists, etc". Afterwards open pgAdminIII, if you're lucky the old database is still there (and is not corrupt)---> right-click BACKUP---> and backup to save location.

b. (savest would be) retrieve your HHArchive folder, and try to get all those .txt files back. On your clean computer, just reimport all .txt files.

Not entirely correct:

I have NOT YET formatted my PC.. it is just not bootable due to the virus.
HOWEVER I can freely and riskfree move data from the harddisks around using a bootable rescue linux system.

Does that change anything in you point 2a) ???

Point 2 stays the same:

Either try to retrieve your old database and make the backup in pgAdminIII.
(it has NO purpose to COPY the Program Files/PostgreSQL folder, that won't work)

Or just copy ALL your handhistories.

If you play a site like stars/ftp you can email their support and ask for all your old hand histories and tourney summaries.

If you can copy your \Program Files\postgresql\8.x\data folder, your \HMArchive, and your \program files\rvg software\holdem manager\config as Pat said.

Now if that was PostgreSQL 8.3 database, download this installer for your new PC - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/postgresql.zip

Now on your \Data hard drive partition make a new folder \PostgreSQL\8.3 and paste the entire \data folder from your infected PC there.

Install the extracted postgresql and make sure you change the Data Directory to point to the \data folder you pasted on the new PC. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

Did I understand it correctly, that this will ONLY work if my CURRENT database on the infected PC already is postgreSQL 8.3?

Because it is 8.0 but I am able to do as you wrote and copy alle the folders you mentioned.

You will need to search the web/archives and find a PostgreSQL 8.0 installer, I believe. Although, from this link, that doesnt sound like a good idea.

I would really suggest you try and get your original hands from your poker sites and install PostgreSQL 8.4 and import everything.
