I accidentally ticked the "use and group by currently active players.." box now like the 35th time and hm crashes every time. this is super annoying. how can I make that box disappear?

(it doesn't crash but after like 45min or so I get a timeout message)

There is no way to remove that checkbox, but it shouldn't be crashing if you use it.
Does it crash, or doesn't it?

hm simply stops responding. (I configured it to use the refresh button for every change, now when the box is clicked and I hit refresh, I can't like unclick the box and hit refresh again, it will just keep on working on the first request)

then after like 30-60min of non responsiveness it pops some error message like "response time over blabla". Now I just shutdown/restart hm whenever this happens, but that's annoying during play cause stats disappear for like 2min.

What OS, Firewall, and ANti-Virus?

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

If it still happens:

*Try creating a new UTF DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=146
*Now import a small portion of your \HMArchive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173
*If the new DB seems to work properly, you will want to import the rest of your archives to the new DB, export/import the hands from the old DB to the new DB, and export/import any player notes and tourney summaries - and then delete the old DB. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=21

Make sure you export/backup everything before deleting the old DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20754

If none of that helps I will ask my colleagues and/or developers for assistance with the issue.

hmm I think this is just lag.. like my hm is pretty slow (right now importing some hands, it's at 17hh/s for over 5 hours now). When I request the stats for all active players and I'm like 8 tabling that's like more than 30 people's stats with large samples on each.. and it just takes forever = hm doesnt respond.

Also I know this thing also worked once. I had those active players listed more than one time (also accidentally clicking but is actually loading so I could deselect the checkbox)

Thus I dont think theres any software problem, except that I would like a like "cancel running db request" button or simply a way to remove that checkbox from that spot.

I would suggest you do the majority of the things in this thread: http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11194

Some of the most important things, imo:

- Remove the WinnerName, WinnerCards and WinnerWon from the Options > Hands View Column Selector
- Turning off logging and deleting existing logs
- Vacuum/Full/Analyze, then Reindex - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=163
- Defrag last and make sure you stop the postgresql service before you defrag. I personally use Smart Defrag.
- Do a Cold Boot (Shut Down > Start) before you use HM again

ye I did all that a while back :)

I dunno.. PC is old, loads of hands in, it's just slow

What about trying to purge some old hands from the DB?

How do I purge hand histories? (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=107)

How to completely delete hand histories from your database. (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=152)

Or, perhaps make a new DB, and only import the past month or 2 of hands. Then you can later export your new hands from this DB and import to the old DB. This way you keep a 'lifetime db' and a 'current db'.

hmmm interesting

I plan on getting a new desktop with w7 anyway, dunno what the best setup would be there. def getting an extra hdd for hm only.

setting up multiple db's sounds good, but there are certainly times when somebody sits in that I've played with the last time >2month ago. Maybe I could do 6month intervals though, that should be enough. Idk keep up the good responses :)

If you get a new mid-range desktop you shouldn't have to worry about it. Especially with a separate HD for the DB. I bought a new HP Elite 2 months ago. Ci7 920 processor, 9gb RAM, and a single 750gb HD. It does everything HM related at least twice as fast as my 3 year old dual core cpu, and I havent got a hi-performance drive, or a dedicated DB drive yet.
