My HEM will start but when i go to the Cash or Table Scanner tab, it freezes the entire program. It was working fine yesterday and nothing changed. I installed 1.09.02 and reindexed but it didn't help. Any ideas?

What OS, Firewall, and anti-virus? Do you get any error details?

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.

If that doesnt help, I would probably suggest a reinstall with revo next - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

also, I tried to click on Options - Database Management then "fix index" i get an error. I tried to change some of the settings in Holdem Manager and that was all fine. So maybe it's a problem getting to the database?

Here is the error message:

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

*Try creating a new UTF DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=146
*Now import a small portion of your \HMArchive so you can see if the problem exists in the new DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173
*If the new DB seems to work properly, you will want to import the rest of your archives to the new DB, export/import the hands from the old DB to the new DB, and export/import any player notes and tourney summaries - and then delete the old DB. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=21

Make sure you export/backup everything before deleting the old DB - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20754

fozzy...i got the same freezing error even before I imported any hands.

Don't know if this helps but I was thinking about the only change I made between uses was I installed the lastest Ndivia video drivers. I tried to revert but couldn't figure that out. Not sure if that has anything to do with it anyway.

The only other things I can thing to suggest are a reinstall of HM, and/or a reinstall of dotnet.

First try reinstalling HM with revo, as this is the quicker of the 2 processes - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

If no help:
Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Download and run this unisntaller - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

update - fozzy...before I did this, i uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and am just using windows vga drivers and everything is working. I guess i'm going to just try to find older nvidia drivers somehow or do without them...i'll keep you posted. thanks a lot for the help

it works! :) thanks for the help

I guess if anyone is reading this or if someone asks you, I updated to the new Nvidia drivers (I have the 8600 geforce card) version 191.07 and it made holdem manager freeze...so i uninstalled using the program you recommended and got the old drivers from the archives on the nvidia site and all works well.

Take care and thanks again

fozzy,

I started to use holdem manager while playing and I am now getting severe lag...when i open the task manager, there are three postgress.exe files that take up 33% of the cpu each. Do you think this is a postgress issue?

I have reinstalled holem manager and microsoft.net framework.

If I do reinstall postgress, should I just upgrade to 8.4.1 while i'm at it?

thanks.

You will often have more than 3 postgres processes running, but they should definitely not be taking up that much CPU/RAM.

I would probably suggest a reinstall.

Make sure you backup hm fully - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20754

Before you reinstall sql - http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20755

The notes are part of the sql database and have to be exported (explained in the backup link I posted) and imported if you created a new DB and imported the hands again. If you didnt export them, you are probably SOL. :(
