What OS? What firewall and anti-virus?

Please update to the latest version - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate.exe

It sounds as if your HM may be opening off screen. Try this:

Open \holdem manager\config\holdemmanager.config with notepad. Down near the bottom you will see the HoldemManagerPosition setting. Change it like this:

<setting name="HoldemManagerPosition">Normal,0,300,0,300</setting>

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

I am running XP with service pack 3 installed, Norton Anit Virus. Not sure about firewall, I turned the windows firewall off.

That line wasn't in the config file at all so I added it. It still won't come up.

All Windows Updates installed?

Microsoft .net framework 3.5 Service pack 1 installed?

Is your postgresql service runing?

Can you connect to the postgresql server via pgadmin?

Try a complete uninstall and reinstall of the latest version 1.09.02. http://forums.holdemmanager.com/showthread.php?t=20816

Ok I did everything you said on Saturday and it didn't work. Sunday I reinstalled it and it worked. I have been out of town a few days and it doesn't come up again.
It had been running fine until Friday afternoon. I got a malware virus which I got off, and thats when this problem started. The virus wouldn't let anyother apps come up until I got it up. Everything else works now but HEM.

I reinstalled Microsoft .net framework 3.5 Service pack 1
I checked and installed all microsoft updates.
Reinstalled HEM. Added that line to the config file.
Postgresql service is running and I can connect via pgaadmin

HEM shows running in the applications.

Did the malware mention any holdem manager files?

Close HEM and your anti-virus and delete any \xenocode\appliance cache folders and any other possible false positive files.

1. Enable "Show hidden files and folders" under Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
2. Go to C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Xenocode\Appl iance Cache and delete every folder you can find in there

If you are on XP, that location is C:\Documents and Settings\%USERPROFILE%\Local\Application Data\xenocode\appliance cache

Empty your recycle bin.

reboot

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Does this help to get it back on screen? - http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/bring-misplaced-off-screen-windows-back-to-your-desktop-keyboard-trick/

If that doesn't help, try a reinstall with revo - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

Tried all of that and it still does the same thing. I have reinstalled this about 6 times now, I don't think that is the answer.

I have exact same problem. I emailed support before I found this thread. I'm able to connect to Postresql with pgAdmin.

long story short. I needed to upgrade my sql to some new version. If you have your hand histories just cut to the chase

I don't quite follow. What did you have to upgrade? Did it solve the problem? Yesterday HEM worked for me, nothing changed on my system, and today it doesn't. Not sure why I'd have to upgrade the database.

It looks like you are in correspondence with fabio, so you should follow his instructions.

It was a different version of sql. Not exactly sure of the details. It works now. Mine was working at 5pm and at 6pm it wasn't. Didn't make any sense to me either. I had a malware problem so that was part of it, but it was several days of going back and forth before I got it going again.
