This is the message:
This application has encountered an error: 0x8000FFFF, with the following description:
Catastrophic Failure

Now what?

First just try installing the update - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate.exe
Make sure the update is installing to the proper \holdem manager folder
If that doesnt help, try doing a reinstall with revo uninstaller. http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

Thanks for your help. The http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate.exe downloaded flawlessly, went into the right folder magically, and HM will now open. I have not tried it in a tournament yet, though, but based on this I fully expect it to work.
