I try to start holdem manager, and it says

Holdem manager has determined that you are running microsoft vista. in order to have holdem manager run well you should disable User Access Control in your Control Panel - Users section. This is needed in order to properly install Postgre i select ok.

i have to connect to postsql, i try to connect, and get the following message:

a connection to postgresql could not be made. would you like to have holdem manager attempt to start the service?
I select yes

next dialogue box says:
Sorry, Holdem manager was unable to start the service
select OK

next dialogue box says:
Holdem manager has started the service. please try again.
select Ok.

nothing happens....

I am running vista, i have stopped my firewall and windows defender, im running everything as administrator. also the UAC is disabled.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling numerous times, without joy. also gone through other posts on here aswell as holdem managers FAQ.

Has anyone any ideas how to get this working.

It used to work at the beginning of the year, but have only just started to use it again, and it is just not working.

thanks in advance.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled (sometimes a windows update will turn it on) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands.

I am having a similar problem. When I first start HM after rebooting, I get an error that says a connection could not be made to Postgre. I restart the service and everything works fine, so it's not a big deal but it's a little annoying. Is there a quick fix?

Not really as its usually caused by either a windows update or a firewall issue, to limit or eliminate the amount this happens follow the FAQs below

Please see this FAQ if you use Kaspersky
