http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmUpdate1.09.00.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.

If that doesnt help please post the entire error message details.

First of all, thanks for the quick response Fozzy!

I put it to an exception on my firewall, and am now getting this:

"This application failed to initiate properly (0xc000007b)."

Please help!

Also, I'm not 100% sure if I have the SP installed but I have no idea where to find it (microsoft.com is down or?)

....

Also, I'm not 100% sure if I have the SP installed but I have no idea where to find it (microsoft.com is down or?)

start > control panel > programs

You should see it in the list of programs to uninstall.

What OS are you using? XP or Vista? If XP make sure you have Service Pack 3, and if Vista make sure you have SP2. If you arent sure: start > computer > right-click > properties. To update: Start > Programs > Windows Updates (near the top of menu).

If none of that helps, try a reinstall using revo - http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20816

If that doesnt help, try uninstalling all dot net framework installations and install this one.

Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework:

1) Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Software and uninstall every Microsoft .NET Framework you can find in the list.
2) Install this one: http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/0/e/20e90413-712f-438c-988e-fdaa79a8ac3d/dotnetfx35.exe

I checked my control panel and there aren't any service packs installed.

This is where it gets weird.

microsoft.com and every link connected to it isn't working for me. =\

I can't get at any SP3 download because they are all connected to the microsoft website it seems.

well here's an update : I did a system restore and good news, it starts up!

now I can't connect to PostgreSQL, though =( What is this and how should I try connecting to it?

This usually means that the postgresql service is not running.

Look for the hidden file postmaster.pid in the postgresql data folder. Delete it and reboot your computer.
