Hi,

My HEM "can't establish a connection to... " and i think the problem is Avast anti-virus. Does anyone else have this problem because of avast? Is there an option in Avast to make an exception for HEM and postgresql ?
thanks in advance

Antivirus almost never causes connection errors.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands.

Evry option you give here have I tried at least 2 times each. None resolves my problem.
I've been having trouble with HEM for the last 2 months, I spend tons of hours trying to resolve it and nothing works.
In this time i even reformatted my pc completly and reinstalled HEM and postrges, it worked for maybe 2 weeks and then the problems returned.

Sometimes after trying to restart HEM like 10 times in a row or keep clicking on connect I get in. Then sporadically i can get him to import hands but often when i click on the refresh button it says that there's no connection with external host or that unexcepted problem has occured etc. I've already made a thread about that some time back:
http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19336
where you can see all the errors I get.

They always say it's a firewall problem, could it be that I have to add even more exceptions then the ones already stated in the FAQ? Or if it's a windows update, how do I know that and how can I get past it (note that I don't install automatical windows updates because of all the trouble they give so I'm not sure it could be that).

I want to upgrade my HEM from small stakes version to pro version but then I have to get this HEM working, and fast please because HEM screwing me is very tilting.

Did you have a remote support session with Fabio? What did he say was causing the problem?
