I get this message when I start HM:
"The following error occured when trying to open the: Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.01'."

I press the OK Button.

The Database Control Panel opens.

When I press Connect:

"A Connection to PostgreSQL could not be made."

No, Idea what could be wrong. But yesterday I changed my IP Adress, and then rechanged it today. No idea if this helps.

Thanks in advance, Chrischi

What operating system?

If xp go to start/all programs/postgreSQL 8.X/click stop service then do the same thing and click start service.

If that doesn't help, uninstall your firewall, and use windows firewall. I know what you're going to say "oh it's not the firewall, I've had the same one for months and it worked fine". So did I. I uninstalled the firewall, rebooted, and it was working 100%.

Let us know if that works.

I have Windows Vista. I tried the first trick, didn't work.

I have the Avira AntiVirPRO Firewall. When I deactivate it the same error occurs. And I actually don't want to deinstall my firewall because I paid money for it, and I have some bad expiriences with Virus'.

I mean, there has to be some other problem in my opinion, but thanks for your help anyways.

LOL, I thought the same thing. I had Zone Alarm, did everything with allowing the selected programs, deactivated it, everything. As soon as I uninstalled and rebooted, it worked fine. It's worked fine ever since. I had the firewall for months with the program working fine, I didn't think the firewall was the problem either. I also thought deactivating it would work. Even when I deactivated it, and went to deactivate the windows firewall, it showed the Zone Alarm firewall was still protecting my computer.

Try all those steps he gave you, as I did, but as soon as you uninstall the firewall, all should be good. Check with Avira about being able to reinstall it.

Avira AVP causes no issues currently AFAIK. What firewall are you using? Did you set program exclusions?

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

I deinstalled my Anti-Virus software, HM doesn't work.

I read everywhere that this problem is caused by a Windows Update. But there was no Windows Update the last 3-4 days on my PC.

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

Sadly I already started everything in FAQ ID # 171, before I read your tip.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Didn't work.

FAQ # 171 didn't work.

Not I'm trying this:
http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

I did what was requested in that post, everything, and it didn't help.

Do I really have to deinstall my Antvirus Software and then reinstall Postgres and Holdemmanager? Because the "FAQ" was only talking about Postgres. Or what do you mean with SQ?

So, if the next request is to reinstall everything, please explain how to save the data I collected...

I really hope that you guys can help me, because I'm getting tired about this whole stuff. This is the third time that HM stopped working. I paid 80$ and I waste so much time to get this program to work, it's really annoying...

Thanks in advance anyways.. Chrischi

Anti Virus Software doesnt affect Postgresql. Firewalls cause a lot of problems.

If you want to save your data: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

If you cant figure it out please send a mail with a link to this thread and your forum nick to support@holdemmanager.net to arrange a teamviewer session.

i totally agree with you does get tiring..im having the same problem the only difference im in windows 7 and yes i have tried mostly everything suggested in here and 2+2 and found a solution which is uninstalling my internet security *i got kaspersky 2010* and i install everything fresh but once i install back my security software im back to the same problem:mad:
and yes i went into my kaspersky firewall and put HM and postgres as trusted but the problem is still there.

I'm starting to see different kind of excuses from support here and 2+2.
i was told kaspersky was the problem and try another security software but from the looks is just not only kaspersky

The problems i think are coming from HM beta 36b? that came with a trojan (false) but whatever ya doing from that version to 41 is fucking up for most.
But that just my thoughts anyway im go check the links in this thread and see if they any different from the things i have tried.
Hopefully this can be fix very soon.

Yeah, I paid quite a lot of money for both programs, and now I might have to stop using one...

What is a teamviewer session?

EDIT: I was asking on how to save simply the database or the HandHistory. Like just the data I collected.

Because I don't want to lose everything I collected during this process of reparation.

Okay it works again. One of the steps I made helped. Thanks everyone for the support and help.

EDIT: I didn't re-install my AntiVirus Software. Can I re-install it?

If you are using Beta 41 yes. As said before: Anti Virus Software doesn't affect Postgresql only Firewalls do...

Wow, HM actually worked for around 14 hours. This morning I had a Windowsupdate. Afterwards I played a small sesssion and during the session I wanted to check how I stood. After I clicked on Cash Games -> Sessions the programm stopped working. After I restarted the programm I got this Error Message:
"Unable to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." So I checked the FAQ!

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=164

And this FAQ links you to this one : http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34

Which links you to this one: http://208.109.95.123/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=171

So exactly what I already did for three times now.

When I press OK during the Error Message the Database Control Panel opens.
When I try this a several time HM sometimes opens. If I then click on Cashgames I get this Message: "Error: (This is translated from German to English) We can't read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was closed by the remotehost.

When I close the error message and click on "Sessions" another similiar Error message appears when I click on "Details" it somehow tells me about JIT Debugging, dunno if this helps.

The weirdest thing is that during my Teamviewersession, HM suddendly worked again, even though it didn't work for the whole day and night before. I tried everything which was suggested. Now after playing for a short period of time it stopped working !? And now the FAQ suggests me to do the exact same thing again.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I just saw that I'm using Beta 40, is that a problem?

Did you already reboot your computer after installing the Windows Updates?

Chrischi777

I was quite sure I did. After rebooting again HM worked again. Thanks for the quick answer...

The weird thing is that HM stopped working after I already used it for 30min. But anyways thanks.

Who knows what windows is doing in the background when installing an update.
As a general rule: if you have problems with postgresql after installing updates reboot your computer as first thing.
