That is a problem with the postgresql installation, usually caused by windows updates. The first thing you should try for that error is to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid

Then try a reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

i fig i could just delete holdem manager and postgreSQL8.2 and then redownload them and start new but when i go and download the postgre8.2 it gives me a message= this installation package could not be opened. verify the package exists and that you can accsess it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is valid windows installer package. i had postgre8.2 in my original running HM. but downloaded 8.3 does that make a diff i could not find 8.2

You should use Postgresql 8.4 if you are planning to reinstall.

And for the error message: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=69
