View Full Version : HoldemManager does not start

I have installed the trial version and want to start HM. I get the start window (4 of 15 days remaining) and execute "Try". Result: error message unhandled exception, the system cannot find the file (unfortunately it does not tell which file). If I say "continue" HM freezes and does nothing.

I have already tried to completely de-install HoldemManager as well as PostgreSQL (de-install and remove everything from disk and registry) and re-install step by step as described - but no change.

please enable "show system proctected files" under Control Panel -> Folder Options and delete a file called HEMGUI.dll.ldat in the HM folder. Then, try to register the scanner again.

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or else you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executables and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu. Windows 7 you MUST set all the executables to always run as admin.


Did you use revo uninstaller when you reinstalled previously? If not, please try that method.


1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and rename the current, working \config folder to \config_original. Now copy your \config folder from step 1 and paste it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\ fodler, to replace the one you just renamed.
9) Test if it works again for a while
10) If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the contents of the \config_original folder back in.
11) Now you can import any notes and hud configs.

Thanks for the quick reply, after applying this procedure I can now start HM. I will no try if HUD works and then tell you. Remarks:

- The file HEMGUI.dll.ldat did not exist, even with "show system protcted files" active

- What do you mean by "register the scanner again"? Which scanner? I work with trial version because I want to see HM running on my computer, at least once running, before I buy a licence

- running as admin and uninstall with revo I did also before - all what is new now is, that I installed the lates patch

No, no problems in the moment, HM starts - and that is more as before. But I can really test it in the evening, not now - then I tell you the result.

hello my holdem manager will not start any more?
UAC is off,right click for administer rights, data base starts to initialize then stops and a little box appears....unable to read data from transport location,an existing connection was forcibly closed by remote host.
can any one help me please.

First try to delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it, and reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

If that doesnt work I usually try to reinstall sql to the same DB.

For reinstalling SQL to the same DB, follow these steps:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) If you are moving the DB to a different drive/partition, manually cut or copy the \Postgresql\8.x\data directory to it's new location.
3) run the command - start > run > cmd >

net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Install the same version of PostgreSQL as your current DB using these instructions - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
6) If you have moved/installed your DB to a non-default location, please make sure to change the 'Data Directory' path during the installation.

If that doesn't help, I usually give up and install sql 84 and an empty DB so the customer can import their archived hands.
