Did you try deleting the postmaster.pid file as described in that faq?

If that fails, then you have a problem connecting to PostgreSQL. Try the following:

1. Close down all programs that might be using postgreSQL like EV Graph, PT2 etc.

2. Restart your computer.

3. Disable/Exit/Close your firewall and any antivirus programs.

Also if you have a 3rd part firewall like Zonealarm, make sure your built in firewall isn't running as well by going to Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall and in the General tab switching it to off. Then restart your PC.

4. Go to C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.x\data and delete the postmaster.pid file.

5. Restart the PostgreSQL service like in step 2. (If that file dosen't exist then that's normal. Also don't delete the postmaster.opts file, it's a different one).

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe, and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe, and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

First try a simple reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.
