This has not happened before today and everything was working fine until now....please let me know instantly. thank you

Please reboot your computer as first try.

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=73
and/or holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory.
Right click the holdemmanager.exe, dbcontrolpanel.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu under compatibilty.

If that doesnt help its a firewall / postgresql problem. Check our FAQ and come back if you need further help.

Thats swell and all but I am running 2003 still and having the same error DBcontrol panel. It boots me out after it detects poker software on my computer to import from.

Did you check / change the "Run as administrator" settings. I think its needed for 2003 too.

You should also check your firewall settings and configure exceptions: http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=164

Looks like my AV program updated recently, I had to re-add the exclusions and it is now working ok again.

right click holdemmanager.exe and run as admin works.

i don't know what happened since this worked a month ago and i did the run as admin a while back; why do i have to go through that again? I also updated to v.1.09.02. then i also right click holdemmanager.exe and HMHud.exe and select properties and chose "Run this in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" under Compatibility tab.

thanks for the help guys.

After installing the updates it sometimes may be necessary to check the administrator settings (when there are big changes to the exe files).

The same problem for me, except that neither of these options helped (runned as admin, disabled antivirus) and I still get this error, posted a pic.

This is usually a firewall or windows update issue.

First try to reboot. If that doesnt help delete the \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid file, if you see it.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) reinstall the same version of postgresql, using the same \data folder - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help you will probably have to reinstall PostgreSQL completely and reimport your hands.

I'm thinking of upgrading OS from my current Vista to Windows 7. Will both HEM and Postgre 8.3 still work together under Windows 7?

It failed again same problem but i found out was because my pc did an automatic windows update. I restored to an earlier point before the update and problem no longer exist. So now i'm disabling update. thanks for the help.

Has anyone upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 without any issue with their existing HEM/postgre?

Many, many people have. What specific errors did you receive after upgrading and updating? SQL connection issues or problems with HM launching?

I haven't upgraded yet but wanted to ask first. OK looks like i will try to upgrade Vista to Windows 7 and report back if I encounter any issue.

When I bought my Vista laptop I'm entitled to free upgrade.

Thanks for the info.

My upgrade is in the mail as well. I am still undecided if I am going to use it on this PC. I am trying to keep my new 'work computer' as unmodified as possible, so it doesnt become unstable.

I thought you said many, many people have upgraded. But you're uncertain about doing the upgrade yourself because it might me unstable?

Can you point me to the thread about others doing the upgrade similar to my situation? I just ordered Vista Upgrade CD; hopefully it will be delivered by next week.

It has nothing to do with the relationship between W7 and HM. It has to do with the track record of microsoft and their OS 'upgrades'. I just remember back when Vista came out many people said it was much better to install the new OS clean, instead of using the upgrade method. I was trying to wait until the end of October so I could buy a new PC with w7 already installed. My old PC was in very bad shape so I couldn't wait and had to order a Vista PC.

I really have no good reason to think it will make my PC unstable, other than some old PC rumors from many years ago. I am just trying to leave my work PC as close to factory fresh as I can. I don't have any issues wright now tih my 64 bit vista so I don't see any need to upgrade.

I can't think of any specific threads here, but I am sure there are some. A good friend of mine on another forum recently upgraded his vista to w7.

HEM was working earlier today on Vista but now it won't load up - same problem. Nothing has changed. I shutdowned my PC earlier today. I booted up PC just now but it failed with same problem "unable to read data from transport connection" as mentioned before - see my previous photos i've uploaded. What is going on? Automatic windows update has been disabled for the past 3 days. I haven't done anything to my system today except for just using HEM for 2 hrs. HEM and Vista seems unstable.
