I get this message when i start Holdem Manager:

The following error occured when trying to open the database: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Everything seems ok after i ignore this message but none of my stats are updating. Any ideas?

Thankyou

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe, and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe, and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

I went to this link- Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afm...aspx?faqid=171 and got to step 6 which was uninstall Postgres and i managed to uninstall it but now i am having a problem trying to reinstall Postgres i keep getting the same error message which is " The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

I have made a note of my version which is 8.3, and have tried 8.3.6 and 8.3.8 and i am getting the same error message with both.

Any ideas? Shall i book a teamviewer session?

Thanks

Ok so i got the installer working. When i get to this step- 12. When you get to the page where it asks for the username and password, unselect Initialise Database Cluster box and complete the installation.

I am not sure whether this is the page it is referring to? Also if its not how should i fill this in?

Print screen file is attached.

Thankyou

Enter a password of your choice, our favourites are postgrespass, postgres, poker.

And make a note of this password you will need it in the future.

Thanks alot it has worked and i have no problems with it now. Just one last question, I had to turn off windows defender and also windows firewall but i have reinstalled my antivirus software which is nod32 antivirus. I was wondering will having defender and firewall off leave my pc prone to attack or will Nod do the job of keeping my pc safe on its own?

Thanks again

Thats a difficult question which i can't really answer because it is discussed controversial everywhere
I'm personally no friend of personal software firewalls and i don't use them because i have a hardware firewall in my router.

You can try to install your solution again and configure exceptions for postgresql and holdemmanager and see whether it works. Windows defender should not affect it.

What ever security software you reinstall or re-enable, you should test HEm and postgresql after each new piece of security software. If you suddenly cant use HEm or the DB then you know there is a conflict with teh last thing installed.
