Today I thought I'd see what was going on in the latest beta, so I downloaded and installed beta 40 and now I get 'Holdem Manager has stopped working'.

HM actually continues to work but I am forced to press the 'close program' button which of course closes HM.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 or holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe, and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe, and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Close HEM and your anti-virus and delete any \xenocode\appliance cache folders and any other possible false positive files.

reboot

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and rename the current, working \config folder to \config_original. Now copy your \config folder from step 1 and paste it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\ fodler, to replace the one you just renamed.
9) Test if it works again for a while
10) If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the contents of the \config_original folder back in.
11) Now you can import any notes and hud configs.

Doesn't help.

Once more, Holdem Manager works fine but there is an annoying "Holdem Manager has stopped working" window that is always on top and if you close it, Holdem Manager closes.

Any other solutions besides reinstall?

This solved the issue for me:

1) Download the beta update again with another web browser.
2) Right-Click > Save Link As to save it to a different folder.
3) Reboot, and run the installer first thing.

I am using an older beta of holdem manager (beta 31) and the program is working. I am not very very good at tinkering with computer settings, so I am hoping this version works for as long as possible. At some point is it possible that holdem manager will work as before smoothly with anti virus programs such as McAfee without having to do re-installs? At some time in the future when poker sites update is it possible that the program will be seamlessly integrated with anti virus programs. Also, I have postgre SQL version 2 which is working for me. Am I going to have to get the latest new version of that program or can I stick with version 2.

If beta 31 is working fine, then you can probably wait for the official 1.09 release. Just make sure you clear your old xenocode files out, if you update.

Close HEM and your anti-virus and delete any \xenocode\appliance cache folders and any other possible false positive files.

1. Enable "Show hidden files and folders" under Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View
2. Go to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Xenocode\Appli ance Cache and delete every folder you can find in there

Empty your recycle bin.

reboot

I assume you are referring to postgresql 8.2, when you refer to version 2? If it works, there is no need to upgrade. Wait until you have DB problems and have to reimport your archives the next time.

I will stay with my beta 31 for now. I am amazed that almost all good poker players who use holdem manager are very knowledgeable about PCs. I am not. In my opinion, your program is outstanding, the best in the field, but it almost seems that it helps to have more detailed knowledge of windows operating systems to tinker periodically when sites update (or downgrade) their software and installation of new betas is required. No fault of poker software developers; due to complexity of internet, security programs, and anti-virus programs. Also I have a hunch that McAfee, etc do not give small and medium sized software developers priority in resolving issues.

I used name "TURKEY" as humor since I hate the term donkey in poker, and I like both food and animals. Turns out unfortunately, that I am a turkey when it comes to being able to troubleshoot anything on my computer.

Since program is working I will hold off on doing anything for now. Thanks very much for your prompt response.
