The secondary logon service is a standard windows service. You need to start it manually in Windows 7 in Administration->services or start -> run -> services.msc.

Use Google if you need further help.

Greetings:

With Windows 7, my problem happens earlier than the above. How do I unzip the postres file on the desk top?

I downloaded WinRar. I made a new file on the desktop. Is it really necessary to do this? Now how do I get the postgres file unzipped?

Also searched the forum about this.

It looks as if the file is unzipped. The next thing is the following message:

The installation package could not be opened...Verify the package...and you can access it...or contact the...

Please help.

If you only double clicked the postgresql.zip download, you only opened it up in a preview window of sorts.

- Right-Click > Extract All to your postgresql.zip file.
- That should create a new folder with the contents, which should allow the setup to run properly.
- If you have any issues with the windows not having an Extract menu under Right-Click, try www.7zip.org.

I recommend you just use the 8.4 one-click installer.

Install PostgreSQL 8.4, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall - http://www.postgresql.org/download/windows

Hello Again:

Thanks somuch for the very prompt response.

Following your instructions, I was able to make one giant step. But I'm not there yet.

When I look at my programs Postgres is definitely one of my files. So it appears that it is installed. However, when I click on the shortcut to holdem manager I still get the error. Please help.

Thanks
David

What error do you get? The secondary logon error again?

The secondary logon service is a standard windows service which is available on every windows computer. In the latest versions it is not started automatically. You need to start it via control panel > administrative tools > services. Right-Click > Properties > Startup > Automatic should insure it works in the future also.

If that isn't it, please specify what errors you are receiving.

Hi Again:

Guess I messed up. When I restarted I got a new chioce to start with David which is my Administration name or to start with Postgress. That kind of scared me so I uninstalled Postgres.

Then when I tried to reinstall it I got a rejection with my password. To the best of my recollection I used "postgrespass"-but this was rejected several times. Any suggestions?

David

run the command - start > run > cmd >

net user postgres /delete

That is a trait of the new enterprise db installer for sql 8.4 and can be hidden with a minor registry hack.

3) run the command - start > programs > accessories > command prompt > right-click > run as administrator

net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.4, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall - http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do#windows

Hello again:

Got past the password problem but still unable to connect.

When I click on Shortcut to Holdem Manager I get the Data Base Control Panel and the error: A connection to PostgresSQL could not be made.

One thought: I am using Norton Internet Security Software and turn off the Firewall. Do I need to uninstall it as well?

I have also turned off User accounts and have turned on Administrative Services.

Thank you,

David

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

I usually dont have any problems with norton, once you set program exceptions.

If you have a \postgresql\8.x\data\postmaster.pid, try deleting it.

Greetings:

I've been at this for several days but am not sure where I'm at because the instructions for Postgres8.4.1 may be different than for 8.3.

At any rate was able to download Postgres8.4.1 but when I try to connect to HEM the error is: A connection to PostgresSQL could not be made.

I uninstalled Norton and tried to add relevant.exe files to the exception list....however when I click on Allow a program through Windows Firewall, I don't see the Windows Firewall Settings dialogue box...also there is no Exceptions tab so as to add port...

I believe Win7 is different in this respect...so I'm getting lost. Please help.

Thank you,

David

Is your postgresql service running?
Can you connect via pgadmin?

Under RVG Software Holdem Manager, there are no .EXE files.

Windows hides 'known file extensions' by default. http://www.granneman.com/techinfo/windows/showextensions/

So how do I unhide on windows 7?

But my main question: How to:Add all relevant .exe files to the exceptions list of firewall when the firewall settings dilog does not pop up and I do not see an exceptions tab in order to add the name and port of progresSQL

Thanks
David

You don't need to configure any exceptions for the standard Windows firewall.

Just make sure that holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe run as administrator (via properties->compatibility)

Well now, hope we're making some progress. I was able to unhide the extensions and set the above two programs to run as administrator. I did get a different error-Holdem Manager has stopped working. Windows is checking into the problem. Then nothing happens.

Just to clarify....When I boot up or restart....I get an icon with my administration name..David. There is also another icon with the name postgres. If I choose the second I get a whole different desktop. Should this second icon be there or do I need to delete it?

Thanks

David

You should have set 3 files in \holdem manager to run as admin.

You dont want to 'delete' that user, but hide it instead. It is a very simple registry hack. I had never edited the registry before this, and it was quite simple. It is an annoying trait of that enterprise db installer. We will have a new installer in the near future that eliminates this annoyance, among others.

Yes, did it right and said it wrong. Set 3 holdem manager files to run as administrator. But still get the same error message.

My best suggestion at this point is to do a clean reinstall with revo.

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and rename the current, working \config folder to \config_original. Now copy your \config folder from step 1 and paste it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\ fodler, to replace the one you just renamed.
9) Test if it works again for a while
10) If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the contents of the \config_original folder back in.
11) Now you can import any notes and hud configs.

Greetings:

I had a wonderfully helpful session with the Team Viewer that was requested on December 17, 2009. Since then everything has been working wonderfully with one exception. That is Absolute, UB and BoDog never were able to work with HEM. That was OK then.

But now Absolute has offererd me a $100 bonus to play there. As a result, I respectfully request another Team Viwer session.
