Ok,

I could really use some help. I’m so %$#@ lost that it’s actually pretty funny.

Here are my problem(s):

1. I just purchased a small stakes version of the software online. So far so good. First problem - Nowhere in the confirmation page or email does it direct you to download or tell you what and where to download. So I’m working on the assumption that I’m downloading the trial version and then at some point using the code provided in the purchase email and confirmation page to convert the trial copy into a purchased copy.

2. I go to the download page and first download the postgresql as suggested. I extract it to a desktop folder and then go over the readme.txt file. This asks me to first read the http://pginstaller.projects.postgresql.org page before installing, so I go have a read.

3. The first thing this page starts off with is talking about options for downloading a postgresql installer. I’m now pretty lost as I thought that was what I had already downloaded. Am I supposed to download something else or do I already have what I need from the contents I extracted from the zip file that I downloaded from your download page? And if I do have what I need from this downloaded folder am I first supposed to click on the setup file or the postgresql-8.3 windows installer package?

4. As no clear instructions were provided I decided to have a look at http://pginstaller.projects.postgresql.org/ . which provides several steps for the installer walk through. At this point I’m not actually sure what I’m supposed to be installing (totally lost here so I go with the setup file as my option. This appears to be the correct choice as the sequential options presented to me appear to be consistent with the walkthrough provided in the above link.

5. This leads to new problems when I arrive at step 4, asking me to select what options I want to install. My question is ‘how the heck would I know because I can’t seem to find any directions telling me what I need to be installing…’

Rather than muck things up any further I’m hoping that I can get some plain English, sequential assistance for installation.

Our FAQs:

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx

How to install postgreSQL 8.3 - This is overdue to be updated for postgresql 8.4.

Install PostgreSQL 8.4, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall - http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.dowindows

I've just bought Holdem Manager and I don't know where to start. Please help me configure it.

http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=2

Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 and/or holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the holdemmanager.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

If you need more help please ask. We know the installation is a bit clunky currently, and we are working internally to improve that experience for the customer ASAP.

Ok, the database seems to be good to go but now I'm having problems with installing the software. I've downloaded and extracted the software to my desktop, run the setup program successfully and then followed the setup guide http://www.holdemmanager.net/setup/holdemManager.html until I get to step 7 where I get to the database control panel.

When I try to connect I get a whopping big error message in a pop up window, with the first few lines reading:

Connection Error: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

The message then continues on for 20 lines, but as I can't copy and paste the text...

Suggestions for how to proceed?

Looks like it was windows firewall that was causing the problem. I'll carry on.

A few minutes after giving access to bypass my firewall I wind up with the trojan backdoor.Win32.Poison.auuu on my machine.

So to recap my day today. I spent 50 dollars for the privilidge of spending another 6 plus hours trying to install your product on my computer. And now my virus software keeps crashing while attempting to deal with this little 'extra value feature' included with your product.

While no one would mistake me for a c+ programmer I'm pretty functional when it comes to doing things like installing programs other mundane computing tasks, and yet after 6 hours of dealing with this I find myself getting seriously frustrated here.

It's worth pointing out that your help faq's manuals are very incomplete (as in missing steps) and fractured (as in I have to hunt all over the place from FAQ to FAQ in order to try to get an answer for what to do next) and basically unprofessional in their attention to and consideration of the customer's/user's experience of your product.

And there's no help number posted either as near as I can tell. Just the 'AAA service I deserve' on a message forum.

Could whoever is working and reading this message please arrange to provide me with some direct assistance and not a 'please check out this faq' response.

Thus far this is proving to be a highly negative purchasing decision on my part.
