Hi,

My HEM 2 works but is slow, choppy, and laggy. Not so bad that I can't use it , but certainly noticable compared to HEM1.

Little things like the HUD popups taking a fraction of a second longer to come up , or windows getting bugged up when I move them like in the attatched images.

I use a faily new dell xps laptop, windows 7, 8g ram, i7 processor - basically an above average, new, and powerful computer that doesn't lag with anything else. Hem 1 works awesome on it.

So what's up with this. Is this standard for all HEM 2 users? Is there plans to improve upon this in the future? Is there anything I can do to minimize these problems and get the best performance possible from HEM 2?

Yes, it's standard for all users, except HM2 staff, lol, I have the same popup issues, and my tables even sit me out automatically when i see popups and they also don't disappear sometimes.

Regarding lag, i must say that on my computer disabling aero theme and all visual effects does a lot on performance.

Just as a sidenote, the competitor's program is more stable as a program, but the HUD performance is even worst, can't play more than 8 tables there.

So, I believe HM2 as potencial, but for now I have to stick to HM1 till they resolve everything.

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

For W7 and Vista you must set \holdem manager\holdemmanager.exe, hudfuncsapp.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager2 installation directory. Right click the executables and select properties... then select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall for those files even if the firewall is turned off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily.

Run a manual Windows Update and install all updates, including all .net framework updates.

Thanks Patvus

I am using windows 7, with Mcaffe anivirus. I think the firewall is built into the Mcaffe suite. I also have the windows firewall.

I made exceptions for the programs you said to and selected to run them as administator.
One problem - I didn't see a specific program called "holdemmanager.exe" like you said. There was just "holdemmanager" which I set as administator and allowed though my firewalls. There is also "holdemmanager.exe.config and I wasn't able to set this as administor or let it through the firewall like the others. I attached a screen shot to show you what my options looked like.

So did I do this part right?

Turn off the McAfee Firewall.
Turn on the Windows Firewall.

HoldemManager.exe is the file above HoldemManager.exe.config in your screenshot.
Since you're not seeing extentions for all files, it's just called 'HoldemManager' (application)

Okay - my windows firewall is being managed by Mcafee. So I guess they are both on, but working together. I have made excpetions in both firewalls for HoldemManager and Hudfuncsapp, giving them full permissions.

I'm a bit hesitant to turn Mcafee off. This absolutely should not be required by HEM 2 users to get decent perforamce.

I did all this and it sped things up a bit, but today it seems slower than before and my computer is lagging a bit. I ran a malware bytes scan and nothing came up. So not sure whats up. It may be the update you linked, I just did that yesterday.

Also - need a bit of help determining if my graphics driver is up to date. I followed the steps in the help. I am not sure if it is up to date and if not which download I should get. I have attatched two screen shots - if you wouldn't mind having alook.

First is my dxdiag and the second is the intel site I get when I google the name of the graph card . What should I do ?

Dont know if this will help at all. In task manager under processes I noticed HEM 2 taking up way more memory while playing than HEM 1. The first image is with HEM 2 running , the second is HEM 1 for comparison. note HEM 2 using 10x the memory.

Update to:
HM2

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/hm2-releases/196471-hm-2-0-0-6380-internal-release.html#post969921

HM2 using more RAM is normal. HM2 caches a lot of the hands in your database to RAM so it can run reports faster.

Does your graphic chipset use your RAM as memory, or has its own memory?

How do I tell is my grpahic chipset is using RAM or has it's own?

Also, can you please help me with my Graphics Driver question from not my last post but the one above it in this thread.

thanks

If you run a Windows Update, it should update to the latest driver of the Intel driver for this chipset.
You'll have to check the DELL website what the specifics are for your graphics chipset exactly:
name of the chipset
if it's using your RAM

Also go to Control Panel--> System--> Advanced System Settings--> Hardware--> Device Manager--> Display Adapters-->
what is the adapter called?

Okay, this version seems to work better than the last one I was using.

When I do what you say in the above post - I have 2 display adaptors "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family" and "NVICIA GeForce CT 525M"
I'm not sure why there is two listed there? is that normal? I use two monitors.

I'm not sure what to look for on the dell website. Can you be more specific, I'm not sure if my driver is up to date.

Thanks

It's possible your mainboard has an integraded Intel GPU, and a separate Nvidia card. (so you have two, where the question is which one is actually being used)

Go to Windows Task Manager-->Performance tab--> Physical Memory: how much do you have in total, and how much is available?

Download the latest Nvidia driver here:
NVIDIA DRIVERS 295.73 WHQL (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win7-winvista-32bit-295.73-whql-driver-uk.html) (32 bit)
NVIDIA DRIVERS 295.73 WHQL (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/win7-winvista-64bit-295.73-whql-driver-uk.html) (64 bit)

(I'm hoping the wrong GPU is being used, and the Intel is actually using 512+ MB RAM which becomes available if you disable it)

At the DirectX Diagnostic Tool screenshot you posted, does it state it's using the Intel driver for both Display 1 and Display 2?

Had some problems downloading this. got this screen shot : 53411 this was the second time I tried the install. The first time it got further to the "options" part of the update - past the licence aggreement.

Yes it looks like the intel driver is for both monitors. I put in screen shots of both just for you to double check

Where do we go from here?

Boot your computer to BIOS and check if you can disable the Intel chipset.

I don't want to create a new thread, but the problem is basically the same as in the OP. My computer is a gaming laptop, it has 2 years, but it isn't that bad.
It's MSI GX740.
CPU: Intel Core i5-460M around 2.53 GHz
VGA: ATI Radeon HD5870 / 1GB DDR5
RAM: DDRIII 4GB
HDD: 500GB 7200RPM

I spent almost entire day on performance and speed modifications from this thread:
http://hm2faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/1142/Holdem+Manager+2+Performance+%26+Speed+Modificatio ns#PostgreSQL

The computer works a bit faster. HM2 theoretically as well (not fast enough though), but as the time passes by, it works slower and slower. After like 1.5-2 hours I can't click anything or hover over the HUD, otherwise it freezes my computer for 10-20 secs and my hand is folded (I need to restart the software). One of the most useful things in HM, The Hand Viewer (directly at the table), works absolutely horribly. I have to click it at least 2 times, before it shows up and even if it does, it works slowly. After 1 hour or so I'm not even trying to open it.

I have the latest HM2 version (2.0.0.7679). I use a newly created small database with 20k hands on it. It has been vacuumed, analyzed and re-indexed twice.

It's been over a year since players complain about the performance of HM2, even on fast machines with SSDs - and it looks like nothing happened. Please fix it, because using HM2 becomes pretty annoying. HM1 works really great and I wouldn't even bother about HM2, but recently I started playing on iPoker Speed Tables and HM1's HUD is always one hand behind, so it's useless. I think we have to accept the fact, that the HM1 has been abandoned - no new updates since June 2012.

don't know if this is related or will help. but I unistalled everything and reinstalled using the 9.0 version of postgres that is specifically for x64 based systems. Since doing this HEM 2 has been running fine for me, and I am the OP of this thread.

Hmm, I have Postgre 8.4. on a 64-bit system. I will give it a try.

HM1 is still being updated every week:
http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.12.11_21Nov12.exe
http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.13.01_17Dec2012.exe

http://www.holdemmanager.com/Downloads/HmUpdate_Release_1.13.01_12Jan2013.exe
etc.

Though... there are no plans to add ipoker speed support to HM1.

(HM1 FAQ, but you can perform the same tweaks for HM2)
