View Full Version : No hands in session tab

When I click on a session in the session tab, HEM doesn't show me any hands in the lower pane.

Also, when I click refresh or change some filter, the mouse cursor changes to the hour glass and only changes back when I move the mouse. On the other tabs this is not the case.

"Update all filters to session date and time range" doesn't work either.

FWIW, I haven't used the cash part of HEM for quite some time, so I'm not sure, if this problem was there earlier.

My HEM version is 1.09b40.

Btw, what is the correct acronym for Hold'em + Omaha Manager? HEOM? HOM?

New DB doesn't help.

What version of postgresql? How big is your DB? I am thinking it might be best to export your DB, uninstall sql, reisntall 8.4 to a new DB, and import your archives and exported hands.

Here are the instructions if you want to try it on your own. To be overly-cautious I suggest you backup everything HEM and Postgresql related.


You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories, your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/?f=119. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

Make sure you export your tournament summaries: Tourney > Results > Dataview > All Hands > Right-Click > Export Tourney Results and Summaries.

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files:

HM > Options > Database Management > Connect > Export Hands

Make sure you copy that folder as well as the other stuff I mentioned.


Vista: Turn off UAC - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=73

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. Once you get those installed you can add exceptions to the firewall. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

For reinstalling SQL to a new/empty DB, please follow these steps:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) manually delete or rename the Program Files\Postgresql folders
3) run the command - start > run > cmd >

net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) Install PostgreSQL 8.4, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall - http://www.enterprisedb.com/products/pgdownload.do#windows

I have postgresql 8.3, about 500k hands. The data folder is 143MB (including 128MB in pg_xlog).

Is my problem a known issue, that will be solved by upgrading to psql 8.4? I'm a little hesitant to make such a big change if there is no guarantee to the success.

Would a DB dump and a subsequent restore in 8.4 via pgadmin work as well?

The \pg_log file is the only one considered 'frivelous data'. 143mb? I have 230k hands and my DB is about 1.6gb. :confused:

500k hands export and import would be a few hour process.

Yes, it is a known issue. It is some sort of a DB corruption. I couldnt say what caused it, but if you have data and cant see hands, a new DB or a clean SQL install should fix it more than 99% of the time.

I have done this many times and would be glad to walk you thru it, off the clock. The export is easy and shouldnt take very long. I can do the sql reinstall fairly quick and set your new DB to import the archived and exported hands. The import is the longest part of the process and may take a few hours or over night.

I actually did this a few nights ago for a high stakes player with a few million hands in his postgresql 8.2 DB. The export from hem was 2.5gb and was between 1 and 2 million hands. It probably took 20 - 30 minutes to export. He has millions of hands to import and is breaking them up into groups of 500k - 1million and importing them each night, and doing DB maintenance in between imports.

If your DB is already having problems I do not recommend this. Many healthy DB's dont restore properly using this method. Your DB is it a significant disadvantage for success, due to it's current state.

Hi guys,
Is there any solution to this problem, because I in the same camp. Did the posrgres sql reinstall and nothing changed when I click on a particular session no hands show up in the lower window.

Try removing Winner Name, Winner cards and winner won from the hands view column FAQ - Hold'em Manager Poker Tracking Software :: Hands View Column Selection (http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questions/192/Hands+View+Column+Selection) save it and refresh.

If your using the newer version youll find it under Options > Settings > Hands View Column Selection the refresh the reports

Tried that, didn't help. In the Reports and Hands tabs everything is working fine. The problem is only in the sessions tab, when I click on session nothing shows in the lower window. And if I click twice in the empty window "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application..." error shows up.

Great, but what are the results of this teamviewer session, how did you guys fix it? (If it is fixed)

Ive had this exact problem on my old computer as well and I tried all the methods to get it fixed last time but nothing worked, this took me hours last time so I just gave up. It is really annoying though as I use this tab most of all and entering date ranges for every session manually becomes a pain in the ass, esp if you know it is unnecessary. I just installed my version on a clean windows 3 days ago and now I have the same problem. It was still fine an hour ago. I was happy to finally being able to use the "update all filters" again and see the hands per session.

Ive spend the last 2 days to get the hud to work properly and now this **** happens again.

I use the latest beta update 1.11.05 and win7 Ultimate.

lol, like I said. I allready did all those things. ;)

Just got and email from your awesome support with a bunch of updates and tools for .net frameworks. I didnt do any of them because at the end of the mail it said "go to the region & language settings (of Windows) and set them to English (American) using the M/d/yyyy date formatting." and I realised I changed that yesterday morning to d/MM/yyyy.

So I only changed the dateformatting, and I didnt do the 500mb worth of downloads, and it all works now!

I was having the exact same problem. I have two computers running the same HEM version connecting to one postgre DB and only one wouldnt show any hands in the session window. Changing short date format to M/d/yyyy fixed it for me too.

Will this be fixed? I'd rather not be using this date format.
