I opened HEM, got the box that said "inititalizing", then a gray-on-gray box popped up on top of it with the following error message:

An error occured while reading the config/HoldemManager.config file. Root element is missing. Holdem Manager will now backup the old config file and create a new one for you.

I clicked "OK", then I got a blue and white error window (a Windows system error I think):

Holdem Manager 1.09 beta 40

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit the application will close immediately.

Cannot create file when that file already exists.

So, if I understand this correctly, HEM wants me to create a new file, but Windows says that I can't create what already exists. What do I do now?

try a clean reinstall with revo.

Before you uninstall HM:

I want to re-install Holdem Manger without losing all of my settings and preferences. Can this be done? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=98

You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories, your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/?f=119. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

Make sure you export your tournament summaries: Tourney > Results > Dataview > All Hands > Right-Click > Export Tourney Results and Summaries.

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files:

HM > Options > Database Management > Connect > Export Hands

How do I export or import hands into and from Holdem Manager? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Make sure you copy that folder as well as the other stuff I mentioned.

This helps to insure that if anything goes wrong with the backup/restore, you can manually import the exported files to rebuild.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. You must also add exceptions to the Windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and rename the current, working \config folder to \config_original. Now copy your \config folder from step 1 and paste it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\ fodler, to replace the one you just renamed.
9) Test if it works again for a while
10) If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the contents of the \config_original folder back in.
11) Now you can import any notes and hud configs.

Look for the give file in the config subfolder and delete it.

Make sure that holdemmanager.exe, hmhud.exe and dbcontrolpanel.exe are started as administrator and start HM again.

I have a similar error to the above. When I start holdem manager it puts me to the database control window and when I try to connect to postgres it tells me it cannot access holdemmanager.config. I manually went to the folder and tried to open it and my computer said it does not know how to open this file. I used to use holdem manager on vista and it was fine but have just bought a new computer on windows 7 and I can't make it work!!!!

I tried to update to the latest Beta and it then gave me an error at the same place but this time it said access denied to fishfinderv2\backup which again I looked for manually and the folder didn't exist.

Please help me!!!!!

I do not have a clue what is going on??!!!

I want you to know that I do have a pretty good knowledge of computers and I did alreasy go through the FAQ that you pointed me to. I managed to install HEM on my vista computer really easily, just can not get it working on Windows 7........

Previously HEM was up and running it was importing hands and everthing was perfect except table finder and so the HUD would not start. Now for some reason it has gone nuts again and is it will not import any hands. HMimport wont start. The error message is:

Error initializing importer: Could not find a part of path 'C\Program Files(x86)\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Importing\Status\Summary.view'.
Params: C:\Program Files (x86)\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\HMImport.exe/PR2

I'm not suprised it could not find this path because I have looked in the folder Holdem Manager and there is no folder called Importing. Why the hell is HEM looking for paths and folders and files that do not exist? Why is the same thing happening when I try to upgrade to the beta version. And most of all.... Why won't the damn thing work??!!!!!!! lol, I'm so used to using HEM I'm finding it hard to live without it so please please tell me there is some simple easy solution to this madness!

Which Operating System, Firewall, and Anti-Virus are you using?

Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

Under Windows 7 you must set \holdem manager\dbcontrolpanel.exe, holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe to be started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the executable's and select "Run as admin" from the compatibility tab.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Make sure your video card drivers and windows auto updates are fully updated. Make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (or later for w7) installed.
