Hi,

I did some searches but didn't find exactly what I am looking for. I am getting rid of my desktop tomorrow and need to install a fresh HEM on my laptop and make sure I can get my database and all HUD settings over to the laptop.

I followed the FAQ for backing up my postgres DB and I can go ahead and install HEM on the laptop, but my remaining questions are:

1. Should I use the same serial number to register HEM on the laptop which I have from my PC install?

2. How can I move all of my HUD settings and any other filters and settings?

Basically I want HEM and HUD on the laptop to look exactly as it looked on the PC. I will only have the PC for another day until it's gone, though I did backup the RVG folder to an external hard drive.

Oh, one other thing. I have 1.09 beta 24 on my PC and didn't upgrade to further versions because it was doing everything I needed and I read about various problems people had with some newer versions. Will things be alright if I install a newer version on the laptop while integrating my settings and database backup, or should I stick to the same 1.09 beta 24 on the laptop too?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Please update to the latest beta on both machines - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe

You already did a backup/resore of the DB and all went well? The restored DB appears to be accurate and auto-imports while playing?

Hi,

I followed the FAQ for backing up my postgres DB and I can go ahead and install HEM on the laptop, but my remaining questions are:

*You can use the same code for 2 PC's, just choose the PC#2 slot when registering.
*Please try using our registration system to register your current/new license. Then you will be able to retrieve or reset your own license, as needed. http://www.holdemmanager.net/Registration/

2. How can I move all of my HUD settings and any other filters and settings?

Before you uninstall HM:

I want to re-install Holdem Manger without losing all of my settings and preferences. Can this be done? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=98

You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories, your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/?f=119. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

Make sure you export your tournament summaries: Tourney > Results > Dataview > All Hands > Right-Click > Export Tourney Results and Summaries.

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files:

HM > Options > Database Management > Connect > Export Hands

How do I export or import hands into and from Holdem Manager? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Make sure you copy that folder as well as the other stuff I mentioned.

This helps to insure that if anything goes wrong with the backup/restore, you can manually import the exported files to rebuild.

If your export your old DB to text files, export your tourney summaries, player notes, and then copy the \holdem manager folder and your \hmarchive you should be fine. If you have the room on the external, then I recommend you copy the \postgresql\8.x\data from the old machine also, at least temporarily.

Why is that necessary?? This is difficult for me due to internet and time issues...

NO, I did a backup, not the restore yet. In fact, I haven't installed HEM onto the laptop yet because I wanted to read your reply first.

Don't know what "PC#2 slot is" but ok, I'll try the website...

Let me restate my question, because after thinking about it all I really care about is getting all my HUD settings which took me a ton of time to get exactly how I like, over to the laptop. Is that just copying the "config" folder? And, is this REGARDLESS OF VERSIONS, even if the PC has an earlier beta version than the laptop???

Thanks again.

Yes, but I would recommend you also export any custom hud configs to individual files as well. The only files I copy and paste back into HEM when doing a reinstall of HEM is usually the holdemmanager.config and prefs.xml files. If the hand history and archive folders are different, thos will need to be reconfigured.

Your HUD and all the various custom HUD configs you may have, are contained mostly in a single file: prefs.xml. The pospref.txt and pospref2.txt control hud panel positions. If you open HUD Options > Player Preferences > Choose Configuration > {select custom HUD} > Export

That will export a new, unique customhud.xml file that anyone could import to use your HUD. This is helpful if you ever have problems with or lose/delete the main prefs.xml file.

Thanks for your reply and the info fozzy.

I have to say that with all the complexity of HEM and the bugs with the various frequent upgrades I am getting quite disillusioned with the product. This coupled with the fact that I am not a huge multi-tabler and still a solid winner without using the HUD much makes me rethink whether I really need to spend too much time mucking with this stuff at all.

I appreciate your help, but I really need to consider whether HEM is really worth my while. Just airing my concerns about the product - nothing toward you personally. I'm just a bit frustrated by all the hours I've spent on configuring and troubleshooting this product with very little if any return on investment of my time.

Best regards.
