Under Vista and Windows 7 make sure UAC is disabled http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73 and/or holdemmanager.exe and hmhud.exe are started as administrator. Run the windows explorer and navigate to your Holdemmanager installation directory. Right click the holdemmanager.exe and the hmhud.exe executable and select "Run as admin" from the popup menu.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, do the equivalent or uninstall it temporarily - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Importing the handhistory.log manually does work.

After importing manually the file was moved to the archive folder and now the Auto Import works as it should.

The ongame.log files, the microgaming gamehistory.dat files, and the FTP.txt files all have a tendency to cause freezing lately. Their respective poker clients (along with vista/w7) will not allow HM to archive the files. They then become 'stuck' and will often interrupt the importing of new hands.

Try to change the Options > Miscellaneous Options > Change Archive Duration to 5 instead of 15

Try to get in the habit of opening HM and starting auto import before you open your poker client. After your session close the poker client first, before you stop auto-import and close HM.
