View Full Version : Reoccuring Config Problem - can't startup

On several occasions, I've recieved messages on startup that say there has been an error - usually something about not being able to find the config file or that the database has been corrupted. Once HEM starts up, I'll find that I have to re-configure everything - my name, stats, colors, etc. I can never tell why, as it will be working fine the night before, I will not have opened it or changed anything, and I'll get this problem the next time it starts. It happens about once every 2 weeks.

Today I got this message on startup of HEM:

An error occured while reading the confing//HoldemManager.config file: Root element is missing.

Holdem Manager will now backup the old config file and create a new one for you.

After clicking ok, I get this message:

Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

Details (I don't know if this is helpful):

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

If I just click "Continue," HEM will read "Initializing Database" but that will never stop until I ctrl alt del.

I have no idea why I'm constantly having these problems, config files being lost, or database being corrupted after HEM worked perfectly well before I closed it the last time. Help is very appreciated as before I could get into the program to re-configure everything, but now I can't even get HEM to start. If you need any system information I'll provide whatever you request as soon as I see a reply to this thread. I do use Windows XP. Thanks in advance.

Please uninstall every kind of spyware / security / optimisation tools which are running. Only use the standard windows firewall no other one.

Uninstall Holdemmanager using the revo uninstaller and start with a fresh installation of 1.08.04 and the update to the latest beta.

I used AVG and Ad-Aware, these are the problems?

The AVG virus scanner should not be a problem.

But Ad-Aware could lock some files which could cause problems. I'm not familiar with the configuration of this tool so i can't help you in detail.
