I currently use HEM on my Dell Dimension desktop (4 years old) and my Inspiron laptop (3 years old). It seems to run slow.

They both have over 2ghz processors. Only 1gb RAM though. I'm definitely thinking of making the desktop 2gb. Will this help alot? I also have a terrible 64mb video card on the desktop. Not sure if that would affect HEM at all though.

The other thing is because I use it on both computers, I share the database on an external WD Passport hard drive. Does this affect the speed much? I think it's only 5400rpm. I'm prepared to create individual databases on each IDE drive if that would improve things. My database is not too large at this point.

Thanks for the suggestions.

RAM cant hurt, but hard edrive performance/speed is the most important thing. Ideally you want your database on it's own separate INTERNAL hard drive. Then it does not have to fight with windows for the C drive. Performance from a 5400 rpmwill be poor. Even worse if it is using a 400mb/s USB connection instead of a 3gb/s internal SATA connection. I would recommend a separate database on each machine.

Ok that hard drive definitely sounds like a big problem.

Getting a SATA would be nice. I've never hooked one up before. Is it just like hooking up a regular IDE drive? I don't even think it would work on my current computer though. I have a Dell Dimension 1100.
Will probably just have to buy a new system. Need to win a tournament, then I will.

I dont know enough about hardware to be able to answer that. I just bought a brand new HP so I could have new, fast, stable pc. I hope to build a high performance pc this winter for my first ever self-built pc.

Does HEM work well with internal solid state disks?

I believe so, yes. I plan to buy one for my new PC in a month or 2, so I will let you know.
