Hi,

I'm trying to export all hands played AND observed over 2009 (to import into my newly-created database on the laptop). I play on Pacific. Is there a better way to transfer a database over?

Also, how do I transfer over my settings? It was a pain in the ass to get my HUD and settings correct for Pacific and I'd really hate to have to figure it all out again... thanks

Please do not double post the same question twice. I posted a very in depth reply already to your previous post in the QQA thread.

Is this a new database or a new installation of postgresql? A new installation of HM?

If it's just a new DB and HM/SQL havent been reinstalled all the settings should remain mostly unchanged. If it is a new SQL installation, you will need to make/restore a new DB and then reset the import folders, archive folders, seating preferences perhaps, etc. The majority of the HUD settings should remain unchanged.

If it is a new installation of HM, I will post my backup/reinstall instructions at the end of this post.

Bulk Export and Import is the most simplistic way to do it. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Backup/restore is faster method if PostgreSQL is installed already. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=12

If you are reinstalling SQL and using the same major version number, the fastest way is to install over a copy of the same \data folder. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177

Before you uninstall HM:

I want to re-install Holdem Manger without losing all of my settings and preferences. Can this be done? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=98

You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories, your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/?f=119. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files:

HM > Options > Database Management > Connect > Export Hands

How do I export or import hands into and from Holdem Manager? - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=173

Make sure you copy that folder as well as the other stuff I mentioned.

This helps to insure that if anything goes wrong with the backup/restore, you can manually import the exported files to rebuild.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. You must also add exceptions to the Windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep setting.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and rename the current, working \config folder to \config_original. Now copy your \config folder from step 1 and paste it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\ fodler, to replace the one you just renamed.
9) Test if it works again for a while
10) If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the contents of the \config_original folder back in.
11) Now you can import any notes and hud configs.

Sorry for the double post Fozzy, I made the thread before I noticed this quick-answer thread.

Your post was very detailed but I don't understand which is my best option to move the database over to my new PC.

I'm using Postgre v8.3 on both PC's. You mentioned uninstalling HEM... why would I have to do this? I have it installed and running on both PC's. I want to carry all my hands and hopefully all my settings to the 2nd computer.

No big deal.

Your post was very detailed but I don't understand which is my best option to move the database over to my new PC.

This is my suggestion, now that I know both databases are active already.

I posted my entire backup/reinstall instructions, so you would know what to backup/copy from your original HM installation, to paste or import to your new installation. I didn't actually mean for you to reinstall HM. I just wanted you to know how people backup and restore all of their settings when doing that, so you could apply the applicable steps to your particular situation.

If your 2nd installation is up and running fine, you do NOT want to copy/paste \config folders from one to the other. You can copy the HUD configs over with just the prefs.xml file. Or you can export your custom huds from your first installation and import each customHUD to your new one.

Thanks bro. I tried to mass export/import, but my laptop HEM did not want to import the hands. So, I backed up and my original DB, shipped it over, and restored it onto the laptop, which worked.

Now, however, I cannot seem to import any HH's at all into the laptop DB! The mass import won't work. Live cash games on Pacific don't import, after I tried saving to 3 different HH locations. FTP HH's don't import. Auto-import and Import by File don't work - I don't get the "found 2 files to import...", it just says "Importing..." forever and nothing happens.

*Please update to the latest beta - http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe.

That is likely why it wouldn't import the text files.

*If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

*If that doesn't help, please answer these questions - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=174

Sorry for Hijack, but is there a way to export a filtered range, e.g. only hands played by myself?

As long as it isn't a massive amount, there is a workaround method for filtered exporting. Eventually proper filtered exporting will be added to the DB Control Panel.

Cash Games> Hands > Search your name

If you have a lot of hands, like many 10's of thousands, or 100's of thousands, this can be very CPU intensive, so you may want to filter by date to make a few smaller export groups.

Filter by Date and then use the [x] All button, to load all filtered hands.

Right-Click > Export all hands to hard drive.
