I've had HEM for almost a month with no problem. I just updated my Adobe, Logitech mouse software, and Java today. Then I rebooted my cpu (laptop w/ Vista). I went to pull up HEM and got this message:

HEM: The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

When I click "Okay", the Database Control Panel of PostgreSQL pops up. I click connect and get the same note from a window titled "DB control panel" followed by a very lengthy script beginning with "System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host --->"

What can I do?

First try a simple reboot.

If no help, try this:

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Stop Service

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL > 8.x > Start Service

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.
