Windows XP. Postgres8.2 Have been using this for months. Today I get this error:

The PostgreSQL Database Server 8.2 service on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

Is your 8.2 database real large? Do you have archives of the original/processed hand histories and/or a copy of the exported hand history files? If you have everything to be able to reimport and rebuild your DB, I would recommend installing PostgreSQL 8.4, tune it, and import your archives.

Vista: Turn off UAC - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=73

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. Once you get those installed you can add exceptions to the firewall. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

For uninstalling SQL please follow these steps:

1) Uninstall PostgreSQL from the Windows Control Panel.
2) manually delete the Program Files\Postgresql folders
3) run the command - start > run > cmd >

net user postgres /delete
4) reboot.
5) install PostgreSQL again, with your firewall uninstalled or turned off if windows firewall, using these directions and postgresql.zip version. - [url]http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=176

If not, we are going to want to try and reinstall a copy of 8.2 so we can use your old \data folder and get connected. Then we can export it to text files, uninstall it, and install 8.4 if you want.

How do I re-install PostgreSQL and use a previous database? (http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=177)

Windows XP. Have used exceptions in Windows firewall and disabled all other firewalls/antivirus. My database isnt that large and I wouldnt be opposed to losing my current data.
