View Full Version : HEM suddenly can't connect to postgress database

Never had this problem before - suddenly HEM can't connect to the postgress database.

I have tried to translate the error message.

It says:
An error occurred when trying to open the database. Impossible to read data from the transport connection. An existing connection was shut down by an extern host.

When I then try to connect to the postgreSQL it can't find the database. I have double checked the servername, port number, login name and password and they are all unchanged.

I had the 1.09 beta 23 but I have tried to upgrade to the beta 29 but still that doesn't help.

The latest Vista Update causes this.
For most users a simple additional reboot solved it.

Please come back if you need further help.

Please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171 (same as step 2 below)

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

"1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.", this doesn't seem to exist in windows 7, is there another pathway I can get there?

Please reboot your computer.

If it doesn't help search the file postmaster.pid in the Postgresql data folder (its probably a hidden file) and delete it. Reboot again.

Please come back if you need further help (i have lots of links for you...) :)

I get this error when i try to delete the postmaster.pid file: "You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file"
This is weird as i am the administrator :p

But its probably because the data folder is read only? Should i change that and then try again or could that fuckup things?

change it, delete the file, change it back and reboot your computer

change it, delete the file, change it back and reboot your computer

I tried to remove the read only but then this happened: "Access Denied. You will need to provide administrator permission to change these attributes. Click to continue to complete this operation."
I click continue and then:
"Error Applying Attibutes. An error occurred applying attributes to the file: blablabla\postmaster.pid. Access is denied. Ignore, Ignore All, Try again or Cancel"
I get this message for several files like postmaster.opts aswell, and when ive gone through and ignored all those it still says the folder is read only... And i get the same error message when trying to delete postmaster.pid as before :P
