This is almost always a UAC, Firewall, or similar issue.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Add exceptions to the windows firewall, even if it is off. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

Please try following all of these FAQs, step by step:

1) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=34
2) http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171
3) http://www.holdemmanager.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8261

If that doesn't help at all we may want to schedule a remote support session to assist you.

The db connection panel isn't there so you can click connect again.

How far had you gotten thru those faqs when this happened?

It is still basically the same issue. Some type of problem with your UAC or firewall.

I am going to move this to it's own thread.

I've turned off windows firewall/defender, my secondary virus program (kaspersky), added all the exclusions, deleted and reinstalled postgre and now it doesnt even show up in the services tab of my admin tools.

I got it, and just replied. I purged 1500 emails yesterday, and apparently that wasn't enough.

I just deleted every single email in every folder,... some of them were probably important. :p

These were the updates that Bill went ahead and installed without asking me
KB970653 - time zone update
KB972036 - to resolve issues with non compatible programs
KB973874 - IE8 update

Hope this information helps and I look forward to getting my hem back :-)

OP here had already attempted some things on his own and postgresql was missing from the services. Reinstalled SQL and his existing DB, then set exceptions in kapersky, and started postgresql service, and all was back to normal.

Yes, I fixed two of these issues today as well.

1 was Windows firewall and postgreSQL. - this issue started after windows updated itself overnight

2nd issue was security software. I think I removed 5-6 Spyware type programs along with his antivirus and everything was working again.
