Did you recently install a new HM beta update? Are you sure you installed it to the proper \holdem manager path?

1) Clear your web cache, and download the beta update again, with another browser if possible.
2) Right-Click > Save Link As to save it to a different folder.
3) Reboot, and run the installer first thing.
4) Make sure the update is installing to the proper \holdem manager folder

If that doesn't work:

1) Close HM and the Table Manager.
2) Delete your existing HUD files, so HM will rebuild them to default.
3) Delete > \Holdem Manager\Importing\Config\prefs.xml, pospref.txt and pospref2.txt.
4) Start HM< Auto Import, Open the Table Manager, and open 1 cash table.
5) After a couple hands it will pre-fetch some observed hands to show the HUD.
6) Use Ctrl Right-Click Drag to move the panels Move the main/first panel for each player first. This is the panel with the Note Icon (astersik).
7) Once the main panel is in the proper position, you can position the sub-panels for each player.
8) Once they are set, go to Table Manager > File > Save Positions.
9) Close that table, open a new one, and sit to play.
10) If the HUD pops up while waiting for the big blind, do not move any hud panels.*

*Once HM imports your first played hand it will spin the HUD to correct for the preferred seating settings.

Are you getting the same prefs error? The previous instructions should work to cure it.

When you install or reinstall HM it does not actually install a prefs.xml HUD file. The file is created the first time you load HM. Reinstalling wouldn't be any different than just deleting the file and restarting HM. They will both cause HM to recreate a fresh prefs file.

If that doesn't cure it, or you have other problems, let me know and I can assist you or give the reinstall instructions, but that is likely overkill for this problem.

Fozzy,

I was helping this guy out through Mikogo. Here's the exact error.
http://www.brentclearman.com/hem.jpg

We uninstalled HEM.
We deleted all files in HEM folder after uninstall
When that didn't work I installed HEM to c:\Holdemmanager

Get the same error on start up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
-B

I assume you had updated to the latest beta version, and were still getting that error?

Did you use the windows control panel to uninstall? Try using revo uninstaller.

If you have Vista, please verify that UAC is still off. - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmmain.aspx?faqid=73. If it is on, please turn it off and reboot.

Turn off Windows Firewall for installing HM and PostgreSQL. Once you get those installed you can add exceptions to the firewall. If you have a 3rd party firewall, uninstall it completely before installing HM/SQL - http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=171

1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Deep settings.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and copy the config folder from step 1 and copy and overwrite it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and import any notes and hands/database. Make sure you copy/paste the current \config folder before you overwrite it. If your old config folder causes problems, you can paste the default \config folder back in.
9) Test if it works again for a while

Not sure if I would bother with your old config folder, as that may be part of the problem.
