View Full Version : cannot get new update to work :(

hi i had been using beta 23 fine for the past few weeks when i tried to download the newest version i could use UB on HEM as well.

as it was installing ( while the green bar is moving from left to right ) it stopped several times and said certain files were not found. if you clicked ok or continue it continued and installed the entire thing.
upon opening the newer version i get an error message that says,

"unhandled exception has occurred in your application. if you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. if you click quit, the application will close immediately."

if you click ignore the HEM box opens and says "initializing" it just freezes and never opens.

under the error message if you click details it says the following..

Did it say not found, or 'couldn't be replaced'? Are you sure you were installing the beta to the same location as the original installation of HM?


1) Clear your web cache, and download the beta update again, with another browser if possible.
2) Right-Click > Save Link As to save it to a different folder.
3) Reboot, and run the installer first thing.
4) Make sure the update is installing to the proper \holdem manager folder

If that doesn't work you may need to do a complete reinstall of HM.


Before you uninstall HM:

You want to make sure you backup your Processed/Archived hand histories, your entire \config folder, and your exportednotes file. http://www.holdemmanager.net/faq/?f=119. I usually just copy my entire \Holdem Manager directory.

I would also make sure you manually export the database to hand history text files:

HM > Options > Database Management > Connect > Export Hands

Make sure you copy that folder as well as the other stuff I mentioned.

This helps to insure that if anything goes wrong with the backup/restore, you can manually import the exported files to rebuild.



1) Make a backup of your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and any other important files mentioned earlier.
2) Uninstall HM with www.revouninstaller.com using the Moderate or Deep settings.
3) If given the option, on the 2 following screens of Revo, choose the Select All > Delete buttons to remove any registry entries and leftover files.
4) Reboot your computer
5) Install the complete setup of HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/holdemmanager.zip
6) Download the latest patch HM: http://www.holdemmanager.com/downloads/HmBetaUpdate.exe
7) Test if it for a while and see if it work
8) Close down Holdem Manager and copy the config folder from step 1 and copy and overwrite it to your C:\Program Files\RVG Software\Holdem Manager\Config folder, and import any notes and hands/database.
9) Test if it works again for a while

Good news. Make sure you read over the beginning of my other post about backing up HM data and preferences. It's a good idea to back that stuff up regularly, as well as doing occasional PostgreSQL backups.
